How to manage the overinflation of Ego (conflict)

5 posts in this topic

I was reading one of the books on the booklist that Leo offers and the one I'm reading is called " The big leap" by Gay Hendricks. I noticed that he speaks about enjoying the positive energy you make and not limiting yourself of this energy. One of the limits I have set for myself has been to not get too positive or happy because it will inflate my ego and it seems like it has. Can someone help with how to manage this?

On the one hand, I should enjoy the present moment as much as possible but on the other, I have to manage my ego and stay humble.

Don't worry about inflated ego. True joy doesn't come with selfishness.

If you ever need to keep your ego in check though, think of filling other people cups with love and not trying to get things from other people.

@Romer02 I’ve found the ego likes to take ownership of either “good” or “bad”. If I can’t learn a foreign language, the ego takes ownership that I’m stupid and not good enough. If I learn to play the trumpet, then the ego takes ownership and says “look how awesome I am!!”

There is also a place of recognizing one’s skills without taking egoic ownership. That actually slows down development and utilizing the skill. For example, my mind is very good at abstract thinking. It’s just how my brain is wired. Yet if I take ownership and get into “I’m such a genius. Everyone look how abstractly genius I am”, It actually blocks  further development of abstract thinking abilities. And it interferes with me using this ability to contribute to others. Lastly, it blinds me from seeing deficiencies. For example, my mind is not very good at memorizing and remembering facts and details.

The simplest way is to remember that your-self concept is just a collection of thoughts about yourself. @Romer02

I would not say that it will inflate the ego, but rather will create an attachment. Let go and do not to cling to the experience itself. "There is just an experience in reality and it has nothing to do with "you". :D

So in the situation when you would like to take any ownership of anything, just let go and move on. You are not your thoughts, emotions and feelings. You are the one who observes them. Refocus your awareness, pull back and enjoying seeing everything as a raw experience.

Also, the more you wait the harder it will be to let go.

Observe your ego and do not get involved. Like truly. It will act as a crazy animal sometimes, so let is just be. Seat in "the back" of your consciousness and have fun. This way you will be dissolving ego day by day. Once it dissolves you should see your true nature that has nothing to do with ego.

Simply notice that you are (who notices things) are distinct from what you are experiences. Actually it's easy and fun :)
