I think it would help the quality of this sub-forum if we all took a moment to re-read Leo's forum guidelines.

"Please keep in mind that this is a naturally controversial topic. Watch your self-bias, ideology, and devilry extra closely as you think about and talk about these issues. These issues are emotionally charged precisely because they go to the core of your identity & survival. Don't turn this sub-forum into a distraction from inner work."

Yes! We must pay careful attention to how we project our devilry and shadows onto others here. There was a user that typed like a white supremacist, and probably was one, or was trolling but anyways, the other users were projecting onto him what they don't like, and being logically superior and all. I was definitely careful with that user but others were not and instead distract and twist around. A great moment for me to reflect and not behave like those aggressive users. Even the Dalai Lama knows these types of forces all too well.

More importantly do people use common sense? Probably not because it probably does not exist. So we are floating through life and there are random laws we follow or we break.

In a non-dual forum guidelines sometimes can be seen as a funny concept though it still makes sense.

This section could use more consistent moderation to weed out the conspiracy theorists and people propagating discrimination and dog whistles.

I know what you're talking about and I guess I maybe am one of the ones you're talking about. I take your criticism as I definitely got distracted by the discussions. I will say I was very careful not to directly insult the user, I'm pretty sure if you go through the posts it would be hard to pick out a direct insult. Having said that my personal work would be on letting something like this go when it is clear the person has no intentions of a fruitful discussion, I found it frustrating that someone could be so, as I perceive wrong, not necessarily in terms of the content but in terms of ignoring counter evidence and how they came to their conclusions.

I appreciate that it could come off intellectually superior, a better response would most likely have been to just leave him to it, because in reality he was never going to change his mind or concede a point, he wanted to get his rhetoric out and maybe find those that agree. From my perspective if I engage it looks like I'm trying to be superior because I'm consistently showing him where he's wrong and he's consistently dismissing and claiming I'm attacking him. In reality I never felt hate or anger towards him, maybe frustration on occasion.

I agree with @DivineSoda the discourse needs to be upped in the sub otherwise I would suggest it should be removed. If someone at red, blue or orange posts here it really stands out, not saying they shouldn't post but I think whatever stage you're at you have to be willing to learn and change opinions in the light of new evidence, if that's the case discussions can flow pretty easily. Anyway love to all you guys

Good topic thread!

From my observations, many prefer to antagonise forum members on politics opposed to partake in conducive discussion for the purpose of inner work. This would be a good start.

This subsection really does bring the worst of my ego out, so I try to avoid writing on it. I figured Im not mature enough to discuss politics, unless its to directly ask guidance with an open mind. It does have a lot of good discussion when it comes to political and cultural movements, and I've learned a lot about those things here.

As long as people behave in a civilized manner, and not cling to logic like a needy teen, then there's growth to be had here.
