God damn it I’m just gonna say it....lol...the average person’s attention span is not even close to the three minutes a hit song fills. It’s not even ten seconds. Most people are not even actually listening to the words really. ?

Try a 20 minutes long prog rock song ?

People are missing out on entire worlds, not just rhythms and melodies.

@Nahm Thanks for the great reply. There's a lot of good stuff in there. :)

This will sound nuts until you directly experience it a few times, so to speak. But, try alternating thinking and understanding. Imagine it’s like a space that only one can be in at a time. Same with learning a song or a part of a song on guitar. Again, let that marinade. Insights might ‘pop’ outta nowhere.

There's the analysing and the feeling of a song. Sometimes I get stuck in analysis (Music Theory) part of it and I'm not feeling the music the way I should be. The feeling of it is really all that matters though, but for some reason I enjoy the analysis a little bit more ¬¬

Probably the same reason I like philosophizing about the meta-physical more than the meditation and self-work. Maybe the ego is at play here huh?

There’s seven billion people. You cold do just about anything and hundreds of people will dig it. Put your heart into it, and a million or more is highly likely.

So you might, sometimes, be overthinking music, in terms of songwriting, and other facets as well. Most people go for three chords, a hook, and some truth. There are some who can appreciate ‘perfection’ in musicianship and or song writing. In either case, it’s all The Perfection. So enjoyment is king, as it is the ‘connection’, to the very Perfection (of our infinite being).

I definitely have to keep this in mind. Most of the time I feel the need to make music more complex than it has to be to appeal to the people who "know what I'm doing". But that's such a small minority.

I should use it as a meditation instead. It feels best when I just close my eyes and play something with the heart instead of letting my ego figure something "cool" out.

I think music (listening and playing) has served a meditative purpose in my life, whether I'm aware of it or not. I just need to start being more aware of it.
