Does Fucking Music Prevent Spiritual Growth?

72 posts in this topic

You can blame the music for preventing growth, and you can realize the music is giving it to you in your transcendence of perspectives. Maybe you want inspiring music. Maybe this is nice to know about oneself. Realizing one doesn’t relate any longer to the old, is the discovery of the new. Music is itself untouchable unseeable transcendence. Every note, every word sung, is this.

Rubbish low consciousness music isn't going to perpetuate your consciousness practice but hey...maybe you need to go through that, to listen to this stuff for few months just to get over it and be prepared to move on. While you do it, pop couple hundred beers, smoke some marihuana, bang a bunch of girls, get in a street fight, buy expensive oversized clothing that does not cover your butt and live the gangsta paradise.

If there is a phase you think you need to go through you cannot logically bypass it, it will be a loose brick in your foundation wall. Same as a Christian monk cannot become enlightened before he sleeps with all nuns, flips the  head of the church off, gets wasted couple times, embezzles some of the church's resources just to get into green.

If I chose the chimp lifestyle over the self-actualized lifestyle, it's for life.Isn't there ultimately only two ways a human being can spend his life: by serving Truth or by serving ego?

@Evil Raccoon

Your preference is essentially for entitlement & payback, getting yours, for harming people, taking from people, minimizing people, hurting people, having more than other people, positioning yourself as better than other people, and rationalizing, reinforcing & justifying this, by using like minded people for your own gains. Maybe the opposite is true though, hard to say. Your life & choices say it, and I don’t know anything about you.

It simply fell away as I evolved.

It comes from a place I can no longer relate to or even find artistic. It doesn’t produce lightness and joy

I can definitely relate.

Rap which is also highly conscious:

Saul Williams is a poet and singer, he is also friends with Ken Wilber

many more good ones.

Edit:

"Motherfuckers better realize, now is the time to self-actualize"

Also Shpongle.

In my experience being more conscious will make you want more conscious music.

I get that dirty feeling when I listen to Travis Scott, and find myself more drawn to this stuff.

Meh. I simply recognize you, that’s all. I see your zen power. Your true nature of generosity & reciprocity, giving, loving, empowering, healing, sharing, charitable & selflessness, sincerity, humility, and inclusion. I see when a thought doesn’t feel good for you, you wisely choose it’s opposite, thus exercising the influence of the force. I know there is no match for that, so I just don’t attempt to win.

@Meta-Man Exactly, you gradually just start listening to music that resonates with you more, I wouldn’t force it all, it happens naturally.

Sadly, mainstream club music is still very, well mainstream!

If you haven’t, check out Drum and Bass artists like Mr Traumatik, not only is he hilarious, but MCs about Psychedelics, Corruption, Spirituality, be even has a song called Chakras lol.

They’ll always be something about DnB that I’ll always love, maybe MDMA experiences really can effect you long term!

@Evil Raccoon Listen to music you want o in that moment, gradually you’ll gravitate towards your own preferences and that’s completely fine, just because they rap about fucking girls & popping pills it isn’t inherently “bad” it’s just where they’re out, and usually it sounds quite good lol.

But, music goes far deeper, and the greatest musicians tend to go the deepest, true creativity comes from that place of stillness and beauty, many musicians say they have no idea where their inspiration comes from, it just arises ;)

and then enjoy musi for the wonderful creation that it is!

Heres an example, I LOVED Juice WRLD (RIP) and he is your typical stage Orange kind of guy, but with a difference, his first album was about his break up and the struggles of that, some raw emotion, and that’s why I feel he attracted so many listeners, he also didn’t glorify the drugs, but knew he struggled with addiction and explained that in the music, which was also good. So you can even appreciate these artists as you become more conscious from a certain vantage point, and you can see the pain behind a lot of these songs, as well as the joy and love!

Music is certaintly a beautiful art!

I second that. I feel not good when listening to my music from a year ago. In fact, I deleted all the music this morning.

Interesting to reflect back on what I liked to listen to and to predict what pattern in taste seem to emerge...

I noticed that when I listen to rap music w/ very violent lyrics or even to any other genre that just talks about ego/chimp stuff like money, sex, booze or being "bad" I feel kinda dirty, just like when u consume junk food or watch porn.Does it mean I have to only listen to music that talks about butterflies and rainbows if I wanna persue the Hero's Journey?

who told you that its all about butterflies and rainbows

This is a cool thread. I would like to know how you guys feel about the positive effects that music can have in context of the spiritual journey and personal developement in general.

I feel like I really found my passion in conscious rap music. I do not want to have surreal expectations about changing the world with it but it helps me to work through my own blockages and I would love to have the same effect on others, struggling with the same issues.

True creation tends to come from a place of no thought and flow state, so i think creating music is an ideal outlet for this. If you ever hear the stories of classic songs, the artists always say things like 'it just came to them', so music can be something that comes from some place other than your conscious mind, obviously theres manufactured music that usually takes from other popular songs and trends, but something original is true creation.

Regardless of the genre or content i think this can be the case, for example depressing music could be whats truly in that artist or violent music the same thing. So yeah keep doing what your doing

@RWagner The state one can feel is potentially inspiring for life.

The whole composition creates such unique painting that even some tweaking of one dial creates a different communicated feeling.

Have you seen Leo's How Psychedelics Works video? Imagine turning a little dial and you can change the whole system. Feeling into it is important. Being truly guided by intuition and sensing what dial needs a turn. I don't compose or publish music, but it is so important to have massive experience in music and poetry and then to be guided by feeling. Otherwise you can get alot of things wrong, which wouldn't be bad because you can learn and create true brilliance.

I am glad to hear that!

I actually did songs about things that came to me completely out of the blue while meditating and it is really a great pleasure. The flow state appears instantly when I start writing and recording and it might be the truest form of self expression I can offer.

Yeah I saw the video, really inspired me for the trips that followed afterwards as well.

I feel negative influences from the past slowing down my working process, the old "I´m not good enough" - story but it is also a great way of creating momentum because the more I create, the more baggage falls off.

Anyways, Turning the dial up for myself and others using that seems like a really fulfilling way to live life.

Thanks for your responses!

@RWagner I read again my comment and saw that it could be misinterpreted. I want to share my perspective (without putting it on you) and clarify.

Besides your dial of consciousness there is also the dial you turn in the creation of your music. Intuitively feeling into how you turn the dial can be a source of inspiration for you & others because you create the emotional state through your art.

Just listen to high quality authentic music.

Sometimes I really like Biggie smalls because of how real his music and the portrayal of life his story as a narrative, plus its rapping is fun.

I do think music and what you consume has an impact on your attachment to ego desires. There is positive authentic music. Usually after a good mushroom trip, I don't want to listen to 6ix 9ine, I want to listen to Here comes the sun by the Beatles.

@DefinitelyNotARobot I don't understand what the fuck u're talking about, it's contradictory to me.You're sayin that it's ok to listen to chimp music if I BECOME the music instead of listening to it on a surface level but that's exactly what I'm doin and that is whole fucking problem that I'm tryin to explain! By immersing myself in the energy of an "evil" song, by being ONE with it, I become it and therefore my mind is being "chimped"/corrupted.
