Mindfulness in Everyday Life

4 posts in this topic

Hey there, I have simple question :

After a bit more than a year of meditation (between 30min to 1h a day), I enter a mindfulness quite quickly when alone in silence.  But, the moment I go out of the room, talk to other people, work... every hint of mindfulness suddenly disappear. As if increasing the amount of objects to be conscious of  prevented me entirely  from keeping the higher level of consciousness.

So, How to adapt the practice to everyday life ? Must I simply keep trying and keep failing until it works or is there is any trick or advice that could be useful for that purpose ?

Awareness is like a muscle. It must be exercised constantly to maintain and reach higher levels.

It's like your legs. If you stopped using them and sat around all day they would wither away and lose muscle, and get weak. On the other side of things if you ran or cycled every day, and did weight training you'd get strong legs that serve you well.

There is no way around it, it's constant work. Then more work, then if you want to get even more of it......... you gotta work some more.

And I will. I know how gratifying it is to be conscious now, it's no longer faith in the fact that it will change my life. It is currently shattering my entire value system... and I love it !

With the space from the practice, inspect the thought activity as it arises and veils. Noticing the correlation of reactionary thought & micro-tensing of the body as it happens throughout the day & and relaxing the body is most helpful. Also, consciously breathing relaxed, big & deep, with the stomach. These will likely shed more nuanced light on posture, diet, focus, intention, slowing & being more deliberate, as well as insightfully revealing of life, opportunities, & relationships.

Inspecting / contemplating that “object” is a thought, only, would be ideal to see through ‘more objects’ as any convincing notion to be ‘pulled’ from the meditative state.

Reviewing your meditation techniques, beginning a new practice, retreats, trips, coaching / guides, online classes, the right book at the right time, can all be powerful and reinvigorating in livelihood & meditation.

Making a dreamboard reveals to you that you are creating your own reality. The enthusiasm and thrill of the insights & synchronicities via engagement of life at the vibratory vantage point compliments and even unburdens the ease of no mind (continuum of meditative state). Meditation really goes through the rough. A truer effortlessness at play is more readily known. Maybe check out some Abraham Hicks on YouTube, specifically video’s on pre-paving. A case could be made that the meditative state, or no mind, is emptying of misunderstanding, and understanding arises. It could also be said that engagement of desire in living brings fourth unique facets of you, and brings resistant thoughts into the light. Different ways can work together beautifully revealing truth through self discovery.
