Non-attachment

9 posts in this topic

Non-attachment is a primal tenet of Buddhism. What does this really mean? Is it hard to follow? Can we become attached to not being attached? Is that also an attachment?

How liberating can it really be to not be attached to anything? How does one achieve this state?

Do not be too attached because not everything is permanent. Love and appreciate the value impermanence provides to your life.

^^^^

to add to that, Non-Attachment doesn't mean you have to relatively speaking be poor, own nothing, never have a relationship etc.

It just means you know EVERYTHING (including your body) is impermanent, therefore, you can liberate yourselves and simply enjoy things truly for what they are, without the fear of losing it or it ending.

Non-Attachment allows you to enjoy life's beauty on steroids

For example, @Meta-Man used the GF example.

You can actually enjoy the relationship truly as you don't NEED it (like many think they do) to be happy, you simply are in because you want to be and want to express your love with another being.

You can enjoy building a business and earning money (and using money) without the fear of constantly losing it, as again you simply do it for the enjoyment.

The day we begin to see more liberated Businessmen, Sportsmen, Creatives etc, you will see human potential liberated beyond belief, to levels unimaginable to us even right now.

It’s pure bliss. Can’t be achieved.

Focus on relaxing while breathing from your stomach.

Don’t add to that, don’t question it, simply do it.

@Meta-Man  It was one of the rare occasions I could actually add something to a thread you've commented on ;)

@Nahm  :x

How's integration of the transmissions coming?

Non attachment(vairagya) rightly understood is another name of liberation. Wrongly understood, it is another cool sounding spiritual jargon like compassion, uncoditional love, acting enlightened etc which can be practiced, followed and developed.

Non attachment is the condition when the Self never attaches itself to anything. Not because the Self one day somehow gets super slippery, but through the realization that there is nothing else but the Self. The Self never becomes a thing nor finds a thing to attach itself to.

@Osaid I watched Leo's video on impermanence. Lots of golden nuggets there.

It is hard to follow and requires daily mental exercise (meditation)  twice a day at the same time of day (or night) and it requires a commitment to avoid indulgences and distractions.   Try it for 4 days,  allow for some occasional slips but keep doing it.  Try to get to a week.  Then make an assessment, ask yourself  if you think you are benefiting .  Then do another week  but extend a little bit , a week and a half or two, and so on.
If you feel it's doing nothing for you then forget about it.   If you want to do it in an easier way get a teacher, someone who you see on a regular basis,   someone who has a proven good reputation and is non-manipulative.   In Thailand it is common citizen to become a monk for a month. There are a lot of rules to follow, however it can be easier, due to other people doing it with you, a distraction free environment and a structured routine.
