Let's Come Up With Unifying Solutions!

10 posts in this topic

A big reason why we're stuck as a humanity is because we can't come to agreement on anything. Everyone has their own pet ideologies and identities, and so we waste our creative energy arguing and fighting about ideas of right vs. wrong, black vs. white. red vs. blue, etc.

Well I believe we have far more in common than we do different. But we've forgotten this because we've been too focused on our differences.

I believe there is a comprehensive, impressive list of things we could change, right now, that we would all agree on as a people. The only ones who may complain are governments, institutions and corporations. But they've been prioritized over us our whole lives. Let's imagine a world where for once, we come together as a people and change that.

So please share your ideas! They can be specific to our country, or they could apply to the whole world. The smaller, more practical, more agreeable the better, but also feel free to dream big! Here's a few examples:

  • End U.S. election practices that don't serve the people (electoral college, delegates/super delegates, gerrymandering, etc).
  • End the U.S. "Ad gag" laws that prevent activists from holding our food industry to a higher, more humane standard.
  • Work with Brazil to make it illegal to cut down trees in the Amazon and fund a group to enforce this law.
  • Make new legislation "earmarks" illegal. The details of a bill should pertain only to that bill.
  • Make it illegal for members of Congress to conduct in insider trading.

Let's make this list big!

No fighting, no arguing, no complaining. Just share ideas! ❤️

Add anything Andrew Yang says to this list and it's not only reasonable, but has growing support from both sides.

@NatureB Anything specific? If you're talking about things like UBI, that's too polarizing. Some would disagree.

I'm looking for solutions that 90%+ of people would say, "Sure! Let's do it!"

For example, here is a seed of idea. On the basis we are looking for a system which allows both competitiveness and prevents mutuality assured destruction from unproductive/inefficient rivalry and desperate egoistical survival. We could merge concepts between game ranking systems and social theory: Imagine a society where money is encoded as influence graphs on block chain technology, in which scamming and dirty schemes have long-term negative effects on your overall balance, such that creation is maximized as a whole and wrongdoings are discouraged. Although we have to keep in mind that ultimately, utopia is boring, but it didn't prevent civilization evolving from tribes, countries, united world and then any random problem God is willing to throw at us for the sake of fun.

To be more specific, I have this paper in mind: https://www.remi-coulom.fr/WHR/WHR.pdf Basically, a rating system (like Elo) where the full history of relationships is used during computation (i.e. imagine A wins against B, and later the system realizes B was overrated/underrated, the rating of A is adjusted accordingly). It definitely can't be applied "as is" to finance. I'm not saying it's possible, just wanted to talk about it. As far as an idiot like me can tell, it requires breaking everyone anonymous usage of money (accounts have to be provably linked to identity), as well as requiring too much trust and cooperation between people. The gamification of trades can also lead to conflicts or wars, as mentalities shift detached from what it really means to own resources and lands, and people realize the chaotic inaccuracy of the current rating (Capitalism is like, imagine chess, but the higher Elo you have, the more powerful your pieces will be).

Basically, capitalism is more fun than communism, and identity-based fascism, but the exponential requirements of competitiveness can become an issue when the technologies used to access the resources around us don't grow fast enough. We don't know either if the best minds among us have the best answers or if these are good enough for the survival of humanity. The path I want to highlight is toward the use of cryptocurrencies for the potential gamification of competition.

To summarize the idea, we could use the full history of all trades to compute a deeper and more accurate estimate of everyone's contribution to society. It's not about penalizing the negative sides of creativity, but maximizing potentials by minimizing counter-productive rivalries.

@DivineSoda great thread!

•I feel one important move would be establish a respectable space where each person can express their desires in a society and their reasoning behind this. The more we know about what people desire the more we can construct a balanced society in response.

•Free Impartial education on complex issues would be beneficial too. Not the media perse, as they do a somewhat egregious job. But an outlet that provides basic understanding of politics, regulations, finances and reciprocity. How to better communicate and why governments do what they do.

•Another would be free education on wholesome dieting to increase overall immunity. One reason we can’t think and behave clearly is because we don’t consume decent nutrition.

Holy crap I love that idea of using blockchain money. Although I worry that it's too abstract for the average person to really understand and get on board with. I also worry about the digitalization of everything nowadays because it's a really fragile medium to be holding our most valuable assets.

Thought of another one yesterday.

Ban sending work emails after working hours. Similar to how some European countries have done.
