Secretly Not Wanting To Change?

5 posts in this topic

I recall one video, don't remember which one, where Leo mentioned something like: "Things you want to change, but you don't because you secretly don't want to", or something similar.

Someone knows what is he referring to, or in what video does he speak about that topic in particular?

I remember Alan Watts saying in a talk that most people are dogs running around chasing cars, even if the dog managed to catch up to a car he wouldn't have a clue what to do with it. It's basically saying that people are more in love with the idea of fulfilling their grand desires, than actually fulfilling them. Because deep down inside we know, even if we managed to fulfill all our needs, reality is going to feel exactly the same after the high of getting it has worn off.

Striving for things can be fun for a while, it can give a great sense of purpose, connection, determination, excitement and passion. But ultimately you inevitably come to realize it wasn't real al along.

RIP Roe V Wade 1973-2022 :)

@vizual But you still gotta do it anyway. It's one of the paradoxes of personal development. The trick is to be very wise about choosing your actions. I'm oversimplifying the solution to the paradox, obviously, but that's the best way I could put it.

i think it is much bigger than that, did you consider that you may not change because you are not able to,  just because you have an idea about what you should do, doesnt mean you have the ability to perform it.  there are well over 4k post on this forum dealing with every kind of human issue,  the human identity is struggling to deal with all these issues, the solution to all these problems and issues is evolution of human consciousness,  and or becoming self realized.  most have no concept of just how many issues they have rooted within their consciousness,  you cannot overcome the human identity by dealing with individual issues,  most wont be able to overcome their belief system, let alone all the rest of the issues, which most of those issues stem from a false belief system.

to overcome the human identity, one must become something more than the human identity, this is the heart of the matter, and there is no other way,

you can work at reading thousands of books, you can study every  philosophy,  you can sit at the feet of every teacher, and you can meditate forever and you may never become self realized,

self realization is the only way to liberation from the human identity and all its issues, self realization isnt being taught, by all the internet guru's, mostly what is taught is personal growth, to become a better human identity, and if that is what you are seeking that is fine too, but becoming a better human isn't  liberation from the human identity, it isnt overcoming all the issues hidden within your consciousness, it doesnt solve the problems of human beings.

the human identity cannot accept this kind of thinking because if it does, it becomes aware that it is lost in its own nonsense, and belief system and the ego cant accept that.

It is said that one master said: i have overcome the world, if it be so, he overcame his human identity, belief system, and experienced his original and true state of being as something other than the human identity.

Let's actually address his question.

You can have goals and higher aspirations but the truth is you are emotionally addicted to where you are right now and this addiction will prevent you from going all out on your hustle toward said goal. Additionally, your mind fundamentally doesn't want you to do any more than necessary to get by thanks to evolution. Self-actualization, especially in the beginning, is a path going against the current and you better believe the current is pushing even when it's not obvious.
