Good books on deep psychology topics?

4 posts in this topic

I'm looking for more books specifically on these areas of psychology:

- Shadow work

- Basically anything to do with self-love, but deep stuff. not surface level. I'm really curious about why true self-love is such a central part of people's lives and why people will do anything to get it if they are lacking it, whether they realize it or not (what Leo talked about in his outrageous experiments in consciousness video).

I'm also interested in learning about different healing techniques for developing deep, true self-love. I'm currently learning about childhood trauma therapy where you go back into the memory and re-experience the emotions (I don't know what the official name is for that, I think its regression therapy?) and I'm starting to get into shadow work. I'm curious what other methods of healing work for deep emotional issues. I'm also open to books on using psychedelics for healing.

- Any other books that will help me get a deep understanding of the mind and how emotions work. Jungian stuff is good as well as any New Age stuff that connects psychology and spirituality.

If you guys have any insights on this stuff you could share with me here i'd appreciate that too.

Also, what tactics do you guys use for finding new books? I go to book stores, browse through Amazon and search online but its still hard to find what i'm looking for. I have no idea how Leo found the kind of spirituality books he has on his book list.

Thanks!

@Tristan12 I hate to be "that guy" but contemplating all this will get you so much further than reading it from books.

But there is a fine line to walk there too, it would be best to do both. Unfortunately, one ends up dominating the other often.

@fridjonk I do do a lot of contemplating, and I've gotten a lot of insights and connected a lot of dots from doing so. I'm just looking to learn about new areas on psychology and healing that I know almost nothing about. Contemplating those kinds of things to figure them out would pretty much be trying to reinvent the wheel so I want to do some reading first.
