Meditation to Cry

17 posts in this topic

Does anyone have any insights into how I can use my meditation time to start crying.

I repressed my crying all my life and I think it's important for my progression on the path to be able to have emotional releases through crying.

Has anyone struggled with not being able to cry, and then through practices learned to how to make themselves cry a lot.

Any insights are appreciated.

I usually can't cry easily, but recently during meditation,  I struggle NOT to cry.  It's like I found what was missing in my spiritual practice. Love!

try this in your meditation, it comes really naturally to me when I do it ( @electroBeam showed me this one )

1. Sit down and relax. Take very deep breaths, at every exhalation, feel your entire body expand, as if it floats away and dissolves.

2. Once you feel like you've sunk into the ground you're sitting in. Imagine a close family member suffering. Imagine that they are trying their best but failing.

3. Visualise a beloved deity or a symbol of God that you resonate with, or just remember a trip of Love you had, or a time you felt deep love. Wrap that suffering family member in deep love.

4. Do this for strangers. Try and see them suffering and trying their best.

5. Now do it for dictators and tyrants. See how their decisions caused them lots of suffering and they did it due to mental illness or because they were hurt from childhood

For me, it works especially well when you focus on someone who you once hated, or had caused you suffering. Surround that person in love during this meditation just as you would for someone that you care about deeply. Unconditionally. The emotional release can be amazing.

I know the perfect meditation for you. I haven't been using it a lot lately but it' very effective. For me it's been always after like 15-25 Minutes that tears started rolling, although it's never been serious crying it feels like a milder form and does work as a release for all the repressed things.
Simply lay down and start watching the ceiling and pick a point that you want to focus on the ceiling, so the eyes are going to stay open of course.
Doing that you basically do a variation of the do nothing meditation, just let everything come up, let your monkey mind go its course don't judge any of the thoughts but keep in mind to stay aware and don't get wrapped up in these thought stories too deeply.

@Raptorsin7 for me it depends on the meditation technique used. I've recently had some emotional release with mantra meditation. While mindfulness in my experience is wonderful for increased presence and focus, mantra meditation has much more of a purifying effect on me. It's like my nervous system instantly knows how to ultilize the silence into some sort of release.

No idea if this works for you, but I was quite vehemently instructed never to cry as a kid. So I just think of how much suffering my folks endured, how terrible that ignorance must have felt. I can cry at my command anytime now. Lol. Very useful. You’ll be able to also, so, yeah, look forward to that. Bitch. ?

Oh, what also works is not directing any emotion to anyone else. When we own it, no anger or hostility at all toward anyone. Then it comes out inevitably. That’s all anger is anyways.

I heavily recommend probing for emotional tensions and provoking emotional releases during meditation if you want fast results.

@Raptorsin7 I can’t cry at all, I’ve suppressed it so long it doesn’t exist. Even if someone dies I can’t cry. I was raised being told by people it’s not masculine to cry.

Maybe try sad music to trigger emotions.

I don’t think I’d want to be able to turn crying on or off, that would cheapen the experience for me. I’d like to cry as part of a holistic expression. That experience can be sadness, joy, appreciation or awe.

A few things that helped me was to decondition all the anti-crying conditioning I got from my parents and society. Also, holotropic breathing and the afterglow of psychedelics helped open doors. Also watching certain movies, when I got really immersed into the characters. These weren’t always sad scenes. Quite often, they were very beautiful scenes that were so touching. One that comes to mind is the movie The Notebook. I watched in on a plane. I got so immersed into the characters and storyline. I didn’t even realize I was crying until a flight attendant came over and asked me if I was ok. I looked at myself on my phone and I was a mess. I looked like I just lost a loved one.

Yet this wasn’t like going to the gym and lifting weights or learning how to solve a puzzle. These were meaningful experiences in which the crying was within a larger experience.

@Serotoninluv What about taking a pee? Lol. Only wholistic pissing now?

For me, crying is several evolutionary levels higher than peeing.
