What made the Buddha so special? And why is enlightenment seemingly so hard?

Just as Leo mentioned in his video about insights - having an insight is a magic mystical thing, like realising numbers go on forever - fair enough, but why is the insight required to become “enlightened” generally presented as being a difficult task, even though there’s soo much conceptual understand around it?

If we was told that numbers go on forever and explained how and demonstrated how, I’m pretty sure that the insight would happen, so why is it with enlightenment and all the conceptual information there is and practices etc, that it doesn’t happen? Or does it happen a lot and it’s just not what people think it is?

Even with psychedelics, if you have an enlightenment experience or such like, is the direct experience not enough to maintain the insight? Just like if you experienced “all” the numbers  you’d probably understand it’s infinite.
