Over-reaction to pandemic?

Was a near global lock down really necessary? Is corona really as deadly as the media and governments have made it out to be?

It is necessary. The virus itself is alright, what's serious is how contagious it is and the economic and social impact it can have. Most people have a good chance of surviving if they are treated, but if the number of cases is too much for the healthcare system to handle, you will start to have more deaths. The only way to stop the spread of this virus is by limiting contact/lockdown. The sooner you go into lockdown and contain all spread, the sooner you will be able to recover and return to normal. If you have an overwhelmed healthcare system and more people are spreading, then you will not contain the virus, thus creating more economic and social crisis.

The quarantine is helpful and necessary just the fear mongering and fear porn on the media is way too high. Probably because of the vast majority of people who are not healthy/don't care or know about health.
