The King by Rupert Spira (edited by me)

The King

When the King asks himself who am I? He looks at his thoughts, feelings and sensations. He comes to realise these are always temporary and have changed his whole life. “I am still here when my thoughts have gone, I haven’t always been a King so what have I always been?” The King is just an imaginary temporary limitation of a self there is - John Smith. John Smith dresses up as the king and seems to become the king but never seizes to be John Smith underneath his costume. The King isn’t separate to John Smith. There is no self called the King,  There is just John Smith - He sometimes plays the King and sometimes rests at home in himself.

John Smith = Awareness

The King = ego

Love when Rupert brings in the King Lear/John Smith metaphor.  Beautiful.
