Deidentifying with the ego and meditating

For enlightenment deindentifying with the ego (and the products of it) is key. For meditating it is key to accept everything and let everything be. Aren't these two practises in conflict with each other? I'm kind of struggling with this question.

To accept everything (mind's manifestations) and letting it be is the first step to let them go. You can't let go the things you resist in the present moment. paradoxically, things you accept and let be, let go. Awakening means to stop identifying with your idividuality. Prior to awakening you believe that you (consciousness in actuality) are your thoughts, emotions and perceptions. After awakening, you realise you are pure empty consciousness that allow these forms to be manifested inside yourself. You don't identify with them because you know they are your own imagination. This means you stop resisting thoughts or emotions because you realise you are not them. Automatically you let them be and accept them because you are literally imaging them.

In meditation, you try to stop engaging in the content of your mind and let your awareness rest in the present moment. This is not gonna work if you keep resisting the things that happen in your awareness. You have to accept and let go. When you don't, that means there's resistance to the present. And that can manifest itself through more thoughts and emotions. And that is exactly what you are trying to let go. You try to let go the content of the mind and return your awareness to now without identification to forms.

Our ego only exist through the perpetual efforts we bring into its survival. Starting from biological needs to deliberate attachment to pain and joy. In essence, becoming one with everything (first statement) or desidentifying (second statement, as in, we purposely chose to "discard" whatever is happening in the universe) are the same thing. The latter eventually becomes efforts toward a state where you forget you are supposed to be an individual.

I really think that the concept of effort is key to understand how consciousness shapes itself.

This kind of reminds me about one of Leo’s videos where he said you first need to accept the duality (recognizing it) before you can let the duality go.

There are different awakenings one can have.  Self inquiry is best for discovering that you are not the ego - for that matter you are not the body or the brain.  You are Consciousness.  And all of that is occurring within Consciousness.   So self inquiry is what i would recommend you start with.  Meditating such as the do nothing method is really the quieting of the mind as all thought is illusion (the world of form is imaginary).  And a thought is form.   That which contains all form - the formless - is actual nothing.  The formless cannot be imagined - it is pure Being.  Actual Being or Nothing cannot be imagined or conceived of.  Because whatever you think Nothing is would be something.

But if you become directly conscious that you are Consciousness itself Being is what remains.

@StarStruck The ego did not exist before you created it for yourself. If you accept reality as it really is, then there is no ego.
