Is It A Trap? ( For Hardcore Yogis

11 posts in this topic

Hello everyone.  I have been meditating for two years on and off  (we all know that it doesn't count ) then for the last two months I have been meditating for 1 and a half hour every day broken down in three secessions.

The thing is  I have been experiencing old memories  from my childhood and it is not visualization at all it is like watching TV with your eyes closed. Very vivid.  At first I enjoyed it and I understood that this is normal in meditation.  But now, it keeps coming and I am seeing things that are impossible to be remembered . should I block those thoughts or should I let them pass with no resistance or active thinking.

What do you think?

do what you want, you're god.

now, meditation-wise, these are samskaras, old old incomplete experiences tangled with reaction patterns that rule your mind. Your meditation is bringing them to surface(or you to their depth). The sooner you can be them, nakedly so, the sooner they wash away, and leave you purified, in a sense.

You can also choose to react to them, who knows, sometimes its fun. But then you are only perpetuating the reactionary conditioning.

have fun :-D

"I gently pushed my hand into my pocket and pulled the last one out, it trembled at first and clung to my hand. "Go on, it will be ok," I whispered. Encouraged, it flexed its wings and I knew the time was right. It flew up towards the blue, blue sky and I looked proudly as it's made its way to freedom. The last of my fucks was finally given."

@kibrekidusan That's kind of a personal call. Everything that needs to come to the surface must be given room to do so. But than again, spending too much time going over old memories in your mind could keep you from the true task at hand. Allow what comes to the surface. acknowledge it, than return to your practice.

Definitely allow them. Your mind is a self-correcting mechanism that is trying constantly to bring you to enlightenment. It is only ever you that gets in the way. Allow these images to be and just watch them with complete awareness. There is nothing wrong during meditation. Just be mindful of whatever is.

Aha! So it is only the resistance we buy into that keeps us away from it. But isn't it so that the resistance comes in forms that we don't acknowledge as a form of resistance? like entertaining ourselves in various ways and so on. That'd be kinda sneaky.

@kibrekidusan

Breathe in = allow

Breathe out = let go

This is the first understanding a child is given upon birth. Breath. Naturally allowing what comes, letting go after... allow, let go. It's like a dance really.

Some people put a name on it: meditation. THAT is the trap :)

Actually, children don't have the ability to relax and sooth themselves directly after birth (parasympathetic) but is a function that - given appropriate support - develops afaik.

@Toby This serves no purpose than bragging about stored information. There's not even any social calibration in your comment Toby. It's just nonsense

It was a mistake responding indirectly to you in another thread. You were on my blocked-list already but I couldn't resist. Actually I'm not interested in arguments, so we just leave it at that.

Yes. It's very sneaky. Most actions that we take and thoughts we entertain are to run away from what we are, as though hounds of hell were at our heels.

Of course you can't resist. That's liberation. You imagine you can say things and a response not come back to you is delusion. Seems you want be in control of your destiny :)
