curiosity about everything causes lots of confusion (about Life Purpose)

2 posts in this topic

I am curious about everything: history, politics, psychology, philosophy, spirituality, sociology...

It is my top strength (from the LPC). This causes a lot of confusion and stress about choosing a major in university and finding my Life Purpose. When I think I found the thing I‘m most interested in (philosophy), I question it because my interest is caught by other things.

I just want to have a clear vision, a clear goal. Right now I feel scattered, lost in the sea of possiblity.

Is this just me getting excited from new information? Is it me dabbling?

Or can I embrace this strength? What would be jobs around curiosity?

How can I avoid becoming a jack of all traits, master of none?

I would find ways that maximize your strengths and put them to full use. I personally used college to dabble in many things. Granted it really depends on what you want to do and if you want a degree.

I think with any pursuit though you can always have enough stuff to research and learn. It all depends on what you find the most interesting and meaningful. Now if you want to be doing all sorts of different thing and combining them, then there is the possibility of being some sort of general teacher. But that depends on how far you want to go in each of those pursuits. If you really want to have all of that stuff going at once and work to go deep into them, then you are likely going to want to start your own gig. I think narrowing things down a bit more will help you achieve the most. It will be hard to become a master of all of that stuff. Likely you would spend about 10 years on each to really become really efficient. But there could be ways to combined all of those interests together.

Curiosity could vary from what kind of meaning you give it too. Someone doing research on a topic they like could always leave them curious. That could range from doing science experiments to just analyzing data. I would try to narrow things down a bit more though find something that you really want to break down and put a lot of hours into learning. A specialist is going to likely get the most fulfillment, enjoyment, and success.

What are you caught up interest wise? Anything that has been long and persistent? I see some of the mentioned above, but not sure if you are leaving more out.
