If your greatest concern is election integrity

22 posts in this topic

What's not appreciated is that elections are messy. They never get 100% of the vote accurate. There is always some margin of error. This is compounded in caucauses because they are so messy and people-centered. This is not a computer chip lab. This is ordinary people behaving like herd animals. Yes, stuff will go wrong. Flipping a coin properly is not as easy as it seems if you've never done it before. You can flip a coin, it flys out of your hand, rolls on the floor, gets lodged sideways in a crack, and then what do you do??

That is not rigging. That's just the system we got.

Improvements to the system are also not easy to make. People yell about how flipping coins is so old fashioned and outdated, yet when they upgrade the system to be electronic and use apps, even more stuff goes wrong.

You can't please someone who sits on a couch and righteously demands perfection.

Go try to run a local election. See how challenging it is organize. See how many mistakes you make.

Go try to build an app without bugs. See how far you get.

It's easy to bitch about stuff when you have zero experience building it. Building complex systems is always far more challenging than it seems.

@Leo Gura  Forgive my ignorance on how US primaries work, but what's stopping something like a secret paper ballot being used to elect the nominee instead? From what I understand such a method of voting tends to be the most secure and with the least problems. Is there any reason why this can't be used?
