Common Mistakes From People Who Search Spiritual Growth

3 posts in this topic

Hey guys,

In the past few years I've met a lot of people that like me search for what we could call spiritual growth.

I want to share with you all what I find to be the most common mistakes that people do  (including myself in some aspects) in this "path"

1. Trying to stay happy all the time. Because that's what society tell us to be..always fukin happy right! We avoid unconfurtable situations, overwhelming emotions.. we prefer to believe that everything is good, we supress what is uncomfortable instead of meditating in the feeling that cause us pain and embrasse it. Pain and fear are just feelings that exist in the universe the same as happines and joy! Accept it and dig on them the same way you do with happiness.

2. Using the mind constantly to come up with a logical or philosophic understanding of spiritual growth instead of EXPERIENCE  IT! sit still..meditate..

3. Devotion to spiritual leaders and constant neediness of their teachings. Is great to listen this amazing people and I'm grateful for everything I've learned but in the end of the day the most important tool and only to reach spiritual growth is YOU. Be autonomous on this.

4. Do not live or act according with their beliefs. If you love cows why do you still eat them? If you believe in freedom of choice why do you get angry when your boyfriend goes to a friends house without you? If you love being outdoors why you always choose to sit in the couch in your free time? A mind full of ideologies but that don't practice them is like, as we say in my country, trying to fill a broken plastic bag with water...haha. Matching your internal world with your external world and vice versa is for me the most essencial aspect of self actualization.  Be honest with yourself, accept your vulnerabilitis and become what you believe.

I hope this topic help someone. And of course this is just my perspective from my experience.

Would like to hear your thouthgs on this subject...what your experience tells you about this? :)

Have a nice day everyone

- too many teachers at once: energetically and from the approach might be highly confusing

- too much listening to "spiritual people", either "veterans" or even "teachers": a lot of them are delusional or dishonest when it comes to genuine awakening and embodiment. doesn't matter if someone is meditating for 40 years. that doesn't say anything. but a newbie might impressed with all kinds of fancy words.

- listening to false teachers/teachings: teachers that are either manipulative or just have a lopsided view on reality, e.g. emphasizing one particular view like "emptiness" or "oneness"

- getting "stuck" on certain view-points or states. Or getting addicted to certain states.

- too abrupt changes in life. sometimes it's better to keep it simple and grounded instead of possible overwhelment.

these are some of the point that came to my mind.

@Toby there is indeed a lot of spiritual leaders with kind eyes taking advantage of this spiritual boom.
