Opinions on Eckhart Tolle

What do you think about his teachings?

I saw a few videos by him and sometimes I feel like he is putting up a fake persona and isn't as awake as we think he is.

I used to think that too. Honestly, the more enlightened someone is, the more unfamiliar it feels to us, until we have a grasp for that mode of being (in my experience).

but if your intuition tells you that... it’s possible you’re not entirely wrong

I think he has an amazing gift as a teacher for bridging levels of consciousness. He says just enough but not too much.

I'm considering purchasing it.

Maybe I am wrong and that is just his style. It's a lot different from Leo or Ralston

@Chumbimba Eckhart is definitely very awake.

It's fantastic, but more for a beginner in this work.

@fridjonk how do you feel about teachers making millions of dollars off of their teachings? I sometimes feel like I am being scammed. I feel cautious about certain teachings and ideas.

@Chumbimba I think it is an excellent book. I am almost finished with it now. While you read it he has a good walk through with Oprah on podcasts and probably other platforms that you can use to review it.

The more that you grow in that domain the easier it will be to see value in it. I was initially resistant to his teaching as well. I notice that I am able to use his teachings well as I have worked on other domains of Self-help that have allowed me to prepare for it. I would not really worry about where you are at. I would say to buy 3 books on spirituality and see how it goes.

I read "The Power of Now" during one day, I just could not put it aside. His personal story was what fascinated me the most and what I (kind of) remember till this day and I also consider it authentic. Regarding the teaching from the book, I just vaguely remember it being about rooting yourself in the present moment and generally realizing your owns mindgames and all the problems that thoughts can create. Which is something I have no problem with.

I don't think he is fake, but his way of live presentation is too slow and dry for my liking and makes me loose interest quickly.

As I have not followed him extensively and basically only read one book by him long time ago, take it with a grain of salt :) Maybe I will explore him in the future, but right now don't have any incliniation to do that.

So thus ends my little ramble about encountering Eckhart Tolle.

Yes, it was a hugely important read for me.

Sorry you didn't ask me this but it made me realize I gotta be honest, I did have a lot of doubts and thoughts like this at the time. I ended up later understanding that it was a shadow I had around money and limitation mindset. I still have that shadow come up but I kinda "see" it now. Studying the law of attraction and kinda feeling into the truth of it was a huge breakthrough for me in this area.

@Chumbimba Everyone has to make a living doing something. There is a ton of teachers out there making nothing. If someone wanted to scam you, then they most likely would not be making products that help you improve yourself in the first place.

Someone who is receiving a lot of money is providing a lot of value. His book in particular is only a few bucks used on eBay, so not really anything I would worry about.

Leo makes money off the life purpose course. You most likely would not consider him a scammer if you are here on the forum. You have to pick and choose who you want to listen to. I have received immense value from that course. I would say even one of the videos itself on the course gave me enough value for the $250. It is all in how you use the information that you receive. If Leo made another product I would gladly buy it.

@mandyjw it's crazy that you say that because I am currently reading it's not about the money and it talks about the idealist. I have some of that archetype and a shadow to losing money because I have been scammed/stolen from before so I am probably projecting that onto Eckhart and Ralston.

I emailed Ralston about his $15,000 apprenticeship. He basically told me to get a job Lmao

I find his exaggerated "eccentric old man" persona unnecessary and I think that's an act for the camera. But I don't doubt he is a genius.

I definitely have grown from all this personal development stuff no doubt. I am just broke and have fears around money and feel guilty for spending my money on this field and going so deep into it.

Like I have bought probably 30+ books on Leos list. And feel guilty every time for buying one. Even though they are hella interesting and I know that they will have a synergistic effect on my development.

@Chumbimba Seriously, check out Abraham Hicks if she resonates with you. It took me years of Eckhart to even get to the point where I was open-minded enough for her stuff, but it sounds like you're already there.

When I was a kid we spent part of a summer digging up gravel and screening it into buckets to fix our septic system because my parents refused to hire someone... so yeah... lots of beliefs around money to unwire. xD

@Chumbimba Like Mandingo said, YouTube Abraham Hicks & money. You’ll be right as rain. When it “clicks”...ahhhh.   I wanna hear from ya. ??♥️ Also, I believe there are some videos of not only Tolle on LOA, but Rupert Spira also.

@Nahm I saw Rupert Spira in person in London. Completely blew me away. his presence made me more conscious just by him sitting there

@Chumbimba Just because you're enlightened doesn't mean you can't make millions.

I like Osho's stance on money and success the most, although it's a tricky path to not go off rails.

Good point. They are still human at the end of the day. They are the same species as Hitler. Eckhart Tolle could have ton's of child pornography on his laptop for all we know. Enlightenment doesn't mean all human stupidity is completely gone.
