Is being present and in the moment the same thing as not worrying about past or future events?

Being in present moment - it is when you are aware of the current experience you are having right now.

For example, when you are mindful, you notice how you have thoughts, memories, emotions that together create "worrying". You notice your resistance to these thoughts and emotions also. It is when you notice how worrying appears and how it feels in the body. How it changes. How you struggle to keep noticing it. How next new thoughts and emotions appear and change. Etc.

It is hard at first, because you have the habit of changing everything. Mindfulness is not about changing or controlling anything - it is only about being aware of current experience. So, when you notice worrying, you will want to control and to change it. Notice this desire to control in you too. When you see the desire to control and the behavior that is born from this desire, you are mindful.

Note quite. You could still worry about your past or future while being completely centred in the here and now. Being present basically means that you are aware of what happens right now, you just notice. And whatever comes, happens. If you hear a car outside, it happens, if your ass hurts from sitting all the time, it happens, if you have a naughty thought, it happens.

@MikeS worrying is a negative loop in your head which makes you stuck.you can worry about the past or the future so thats not being in the present, you can choose worry about something if you can take action on it otherwise it is useless.

Mindfulness and being present are two slightly different things. Being present I see as getting out of your head and in to the real world around you. Being aware. Not being caught up in your inner dialogue. Mindfulness is also being present, but it is also concerned with observing everything that is occuring in the present moment including your thoughts and feelings. So if you are worrying about past or future events, then that is happening and you can be mindful of it - in otherwords, notice it, don't judge it, or engage with it. Just notice that it is happening, along with everything else that is hapening around you. And notice that it is just a thought or a feeling.

Being present can be seen as being still and calm but mindfulness is not about becoming calm right now. It might be something that mindfulness results in but it's not the goal in the moment.

Being mindful is simply being aware, making sure you are aware. It's only making sure you're aware of awhat you're perceiving. It's not telling yourself a thought that you're mindful. It's being aware of that.

You're basically sitting there and trying to reveal to your self what is there by simply paying attention.  That's it. You only look. That's all the work. When you start you might fail to notice how with every sensation you have an image of the location of it. Include that under your awareness. Include it's inclusion as well.
