Lifestyle Minimalism Video

14 posts in this topic

Hi Guys,

This video seemed like one of the most bitter pills to swallow especially as you would only achieve the fulfillment in 4-5 years down the road. Who is on board with the idea of lifestyle minimalism and if you are, what do you do to slow down your life and how are you so confident that its worthwhile ? It seems like a complete restructure of life and seems soo counter-intuitive that not having a life makes the best life possible.

Seems like a very hard choice to make especially when no one else lives this kind of life !

It doesn't seem counterintuitive or paradoxical at all to me, but I naturally lean far toward the introvert side of the spectrum. When I first watched the video, instead of thinking "man this totally goes against my natural instinct and what I've believed up to this point" it was more like "damn, finally I have some logical reinforcement of my natural tendencies".

Its not about not having a life, or giving up your life, it's simply finding a balance that fits your needs for both outer and inner growth. An inner world is just as, if not more, important than the outer. Most people hate their inner world and engage in a never ending battle with it. This whole concept is about finding space for peace. Its about having time to just be, to just exist and to LOVE every moment of it. Your whole world can change for the better through this. So many people clutter their life with so much useless garbage that weighs them down, minimalism is about cutting it down to something that is simple, clean, effortless...

As @ChimpBrain put it, (and I also have the introvert advantage) this concept was more of a relief for me! It is a breath of fresh minimalist air!

As it's been pointed out, quality over quantity. Intuitively if you start implementing the practice (of minimalism) you'll find you're expending energy on things, small & large, that aren't necessary to your health, happiness and overall wellbeing.

For what it's worth I could pack a single backpack, jump in my car and have everything I own, plus room & just go. The quality of my life is more fulfilling now with less, than it ever was with more. Leo's basically asking you to be more aware of the activities you participate in, taking deliberate action in each to sort the junk from the gold, saves a lot of time wasting if you're serious about self development!

Also, you can wake up in a better mental & physical space tomorrow than the day before, everyday. I'd say Leo's trying to manipulate you & everyone else with a time barrier on your development, helping people commit for the long rung. It's not very important, so don't heed yourself to the words of others!

Good luck :D

what do you do to slow down your life

@rush I start with meditation as it helps cool the engine down a bit. Start there and from there on out start being mindful of how much and what stuff you are "doing" to just keep yourself occupied or busy.

Walk to the bathroom slower, eat slower, wash dishes slower, take out the trash slower, brush my teeth slower. Matter of fact, just do everything with more mindfulness, consciousness, and from a place of Being.

Slow, mindful, and present with whatever that you're doing; this will help weed out some of the unnecessary entertainments. In my case, there were a lot of BS fillers and entertainments that I've slowly and almost fully eliminated, resulting in increased happiness and peace of mind. This made sense as I used fillers as distractions just so that I did not have to look inside and see what was really going on.

At first you need to dabble in things a little bit; you need to learn more about your self and what brings you joy, passion, fulfilment, ect. Once you've figured out what you love most out of life (or better yet decided on a life purpose), start to focus more on those things and eliminate the rest. You must also dedicate a lot of their time to introspect, meditate, and just Be, if you are to be happy and actualise. Also remember that the greatest joy/fulfilment comes once you are very deep into area you are actualising (requires many years of work).

@rush

Hi rush,

Where did you get the idea that the fulfillment will take 4-5 years?

If you're doing it properly your body and mind will be thanking you at about day 4!

@Saarah You're sooo funny.  Thank you for being here :)

@Corte Yeah I see what you mean, i guess its just difficult to cultivate "being" when everyone in society is always doing instead.

@Mal I think in the minimalism video itself, the time period of 4-5 years for results was mentioned. Did you get results that quickly ?

@rush

It depends on ones definition of results.

We need to be ready for this kind of change and not just do it because somebody suggested it.

Think about this, is it what you want, or are you letting somebody else tell you how to live your life?

@rush im on board with this idea because I know this is going to be the best life, smelling the roses, but my mind comes up with a lot of stories which seems real,so first I want to become financially free, and start my own business then I will be free to apply this concept, also meditation will help me be more focus so that the little time I put in will give me massive productivity I want to do this

Smelling the roses
