What Do You Use To Make Meditation Better

11 posts in this topic

I am thinking about buying me some accessories to meditate with like a cushion, blanket, seat but I am unsure what to go for or where to buy? I am also having problems keeping my eyes closed during meditation.

Any recommendations?

@Andre I don't know about accesories I just sit anywhere but you don't have to close your eyes when meditating, just keep them open, you can either focus on something or just have a defocused vision and look wherever your eyes feel like going

Wake up, take a short walk and then shower. DO NOT eat breakfast before your sit. Sitting with  sharp mind in the morning with a hungry stomach just pures the shit out of your mind.

Go into the woods and sit on a nice hard rock. You don't need to worry about whether your eyes are open or closed, unless you're doing a specific technique.

I recommend doing what makes you comfortable, if that's buying cushions, a blanket, sitting on a rock or building the most perfect meditation seat from scratch, then go for it! Where you plonk your body to meditate isn't inherently important, so why not go for the more comfortable route if that's what you want?

As @Saarah & @Corte pointed out, wether your eyes are open or closed, focused or glazed, does not matter. Again. It's about what makes you comfortable. If you want them closed and continue having trouble try a eye mask, blocks out the light, helps with the pressure to keep them shut & if fluffy or soft material it's so comfy! (Yes, I speak from experience ^_^

Best of wishes

@Saarah @Corte Thanks, I have found that when eyes closed I have more clarity or focus on whats going on inside but after a time my eyes open and it distracts me. @Kenya Thanks thats solid. Any idea where I can get a good eye mask? Another th8ng I have noticed as I meditate is my back will bend forward as I sit for a long time. I want to get yhe most out of my sitting

@Andre You have to accept that sometimes things will not be perfect, meditation doesn't need to be "perfect" . If it feels right that's great , if not , well, don't worry about it. Do not pamper yourself to much .

Hi,

There are plenty of online shops that specialize in dharma kit.

Here is one: http://www.meditationcushions.moonleap.com/meditation-crescent-cushion-zafu

I have had one of these for 1 year and I would never go back to a traditional cushion.

I take it on retreat too^_^
