Self-defence

6 posts in this topic

Hello guys !

I noticed lately that I'm not using  any of my usual self-defence mechanisms  when I make mistakes ; I become aware of the mistake and either find a away to correct it or just learn the lesson from it when I don't find a way to correct it , without using guilt games or making some comparisons to other people's mistakes(for feeling less guilty).

Does the inability to self-defend oneself and to convince others of being innocent, giving excuses and reasons about one's actions refer to low self-esteem, or to dissolving one's ego (as self-defence mechanism is the favorite mechanism of the ego to maintain its self-image) ??

@Alissa

I don't know, but I do know that you are awesome! Perhaps the 30-day challenge worked and now is taking its effects.

I'd say you'd find the answer in how you feel in the present moment. Are you satisfied? If so, then where's the problem? If not, then perhaps you should try to inquire into why that is the case.

That is just a step towards growing personal responsibility. What is the sense of being defensive against a mistake you made yourself. Not being able to accept and stand behind ones mistakes is a limitation of the ego. It is not directly connected to low self-esteem but that doesn't necessarily mean that you don't suffer from low self-esteem.

It is a good thing, embrace it. If you worry about low self-esteem, process that independently of this.

Want to connect? Just do it, I assure you I'm just a human being just like you, drop me a PM today.

@Lento thanks?probably that's the case. I do feel more satisfied than before but I think that requires some inquiry.

 @Eph75 That makes sense to me??. I'll take into consideration processing the self-esteem issues independently of this issue.

Hey Alissa, if your interested Leo's videos: Self deception 1-3 and Self Bias are great at explaining this particular phenomenon

We are biased towards ourselves and use all these shady self defense mechanisms because we have big fat egos and we are engaged in surviving them. In order to survive, we need to justify all of our survival strategies are moral and for good, otherwise we couldn't be here.

The ego doesn't care about Truth. It only cares about survival no matter what. Damn the costs. If you want to transcend these mechanisms for good, awakening is necessary
