The Thread Of Walking Meditation

7 posts in this topic

So I've been doing walking meditation for a few weeks now, experimenting with a few techniques and I have to say that it feels amazing. ESPECIALLY when you walk slowly! I've tried the technique they use in Theravada walking meditation technique, Kinhin (Zen) and I've come up with my own little technique and it goes something like this:

Breathe in when you put your right foot down, breathe out the next time you put the right foot down. Simultaneously I count from 1 to 10 with my out breath.

From my own experience I would not recomend anyone to replace sitting with walking meditation but adding walking meditation to your current sitting meditation. Personaly I replaced my regular walks with slow walking meditation and it really makes a difference.

What has your experience with walking meditation been like? What technique are you using? Here's a quick guide to walking meditation! http://liveanddare.com/walking-meditation/

I walked without the intention of meditating or mindfulness, I simply didn't interfere with the flow of the walk, the flow of reality and the flow of my consciousness. I didn't judge or label anything I saw, I saw reality and myself for what they were. I simply decided to go for a walk and that was the only thing I focused on. It was a very beautiful experience :)

Like having walked with a chanpange bottle in your hand for your entire life without knowing it and then one day realizing that you can get drunk while walking, lol. Yeah it is really beautiful, one of the most beautiful things I've ever experienced. :)

Yes, walking meditation can be great. It works well after lots of sitting meditation.

Walk very slowly and feel into every sensation deeply.

Feel every footstep as though you're walking for the first time in your life and have no idea what a footstep is. As you walk, wonder: What is a footstep? What is that sound? What is the ground? What is weight? What is the body? Etc.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

I'm 16 and I started meditating recently. it feels great but I've noticed that if i meditate in an area which is loud i can observe the noises and become more aware of them hence it's kind of works  for mindfulness is that good ?

years ago i figured out that a walking meditation was an answer to meditation, until i could exist in a state that would allow me to experience everything i did as a meditation,  there is no technique, as you walk, you do your best to experience every thing in the moment of now.  if your mind is working at some practice, then you have missed the mark,  If you are doing or trying to do anything other than be in the moment with any part of the walk, you have missed the benefit of walking as meditation.  walking meditation isn't practicing some 2, 3, 5 step practice, its about being in the moment of life in a complete state of conscious, presence within each moment, and if its self realization that you seek then this will be important to you.  you will not experience self realization without experiencing the moment of now, every moment of now in a conscious, present state of being.

In the Zendo I am going we always do walking meditation, and it's so powerful. I feel that it's a training to be constantly in a state of being and self realization as you walk.

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?
