Addictions- Why am I repeatedly drawn to it?

19 posts in this topic

I'm talking about Porn / Youtube / TV Shows / Junk & Tasty food.

Even though I remind myself how this will never give me fulfillment / will fulfill me only for a moment.  I go back to it again and again. At this point, it is ruining my potential. My mind gets sneaky when it wants that hit of pleasure again, There's a part of me, which doesn't care about anything beyond "feeling good

That drive to "feel good" overrides any reason or any plan I make which goes against it. I've tried just sitting there and doing nothing, as Leo said in his video for overcoming addiction, and it works for a day or two, post which, the trick of the mind is to be accommodate little pleasures along the way, until I am completely addicted again.

Is there a long term plan or structure to fix this?

Dont fool yourself.

You do this stuff because you want to. Its not like you dont want to watch youtube but something evil is making you do it against your will!

So the problem is, at some point you might rationally explain that its not what you want, but most of the time you just want it.

If you really decided you dont want it. Make a challange, for one month no youtube for example. And then find more meaningful or better ways to spend your time. See how you feel about it. You have to deal with yourself here. Literally. Show yourself your life without the addiction and let it compare to your life with it. If you truly feel better without it you will stop doing it and it will be easy. The thing is right now, you dont truly believe you would be better off without youtube.

In short, its a decision.

@universe It's the micro decisions where I fail.

I had resolved to be off Youtube and Porn for a month. Then 2-3 days later I simply thought- One good song and that's it. There's no harm in listening to one song, and besides listening to music once in a while can be good. That song led me to click through other recommendations and soon I was on Pornhub after seeing Ariana Grande or I don't remember who.

And then when I was off track, it is harder to come back to your resolve.

You wont succumb to these temptations if you are truly decided.

My friends could put the cocaine in front of me, on the belly of a hooker and cheering me to take it, I wouldnt take it.

If I was you I would really look into your standpoint towards those things. Do you think they benefit you or not. You struggle not because you fail to be disciplined. You fail because your perceived benefit of being abstinent to youtube/porn is not that much greater or even greater at all to just enjoy them. Its a fine line and you will need to find your own balance.

Another question for you: Do you have a meaningful job/hobby you like to spend time on. Do you have regular sex? Because it could be the case that you dont have any addictions. Maybe you are just bored.

Practical and good to reflect on:

Best way to overcome food addiction is to tell yourself you don’t have one

Sounds pretty cut and dry right? Sounds like a blanket statement? Well for one “addiction” is a mindset first before it becomes active and if you feed your subconscious mind with statements like you have a problem you will continue to manifest that reality.

You need to take your power back and claim your victory by telling yourself you are powerful, strong and capable of overcoming all adversity.

Redirect your thoughts in a positive direction and that will be your accountability for your success. Stop entertaining your thoughts to eat that food you know you should not eat and redirect your thoughts with life is more than eating and drinking and I will find a solution for every problem.

When you say I WILL AND I CAN you will manifest the ability to be in your power and you will subject your mind in its place and your flesh will not rule over you. Your spirit is your power and you have to just put your faith in that power to be victorious!

You do not have a food addiction you eat food for nourishment and pleasure in its proper balance and you love yourself enough to bless it like your temple.

You can find your balance and you can forgive yourself when you stumble and you can look at the stumble as an opportunity to grow and become stronger.

If you flee from temptation and you don’t entertain the mind's thoughts the temptation will go away with time and effort. Never beat yourself up when you fall short but always keep telling yourself that all you have is now and the past and future are irrelevant in your current reality.

The power of manifestation and the power of positive thinking and intention will create a positive frequency in the mind that will keep you strong in your power so you can act on self-love and self-respect.

Most overeating and binge eating is created from emotional trauma and all “addiction” is so if you love yourself and don’t look for it other places to fill an illusionary void you will have more self-respect because you will not need a crutch to get by because you will have no “void” to fill.

You want to be happy and balanced and in your power then eat high vibrational raw foods and when you vibrate higher you will find more self-love and self-respect when it comes to what you put in your mouth.

I’ve been there many times and I know that it’s easy to just say f**k it and turn to junk food and overeating but the root to the problem is a lack of self-love and self-respect so I will continue to learn that there is a solution for every problem and I will eventually overcome the blockage as I learn to love myself more and get back to nature more.

You don’t have an addiction you have a lack of self-love and we all do at some level and we are transitioning in a process and when you honor the process and forgive yourself that’s the first step of manifesting positive outcomes that help you overcome obstructive habits.

Get back to nature my friends, get back to the diet your biologically designed to eat, tap into your intuitive nature, let your instincts guide you and I promise you my friends you will thrive!

I noticed that the more available the stimulating activity is, the more prone I am to being addicted to it. For example, if all phones suddenly disappear, would you still addicted to them? I think probably not. One week or two, or a month at most and you will be free, until they appear again.

And here the deeper question arises, is it actually bad to be addicted?

There's a Kundalini Yoga book that maybe can help you. There are lot's of protocols for different phsychiatric disorders, one of them addictive and impulsive personality dissorder. I have not tried the protocol for addictions, but have been having success for treating phobias and neuroses.

It is called Sacred Therapies: The Kundalini Yoga Meditation Handbook for Mental Health.

If you're sceptic, maybe check Leo's video on Yoga. Hope it helps.

I don't know.

If you have nothing to lose, then there's nothing lost.

Addiction seems like a short circuit on loop through all the maze of life.

Like what's the point in running around, if there's nothing to do and you have to be doing something anyway.

I see.

This view can be really relieving, right? I just felt some tranquillity from understanding that it could be fine to be addicted, that I don't need to demonise addiction all the time.

However, do you think it's a good idea to be addicted on the long run? I mean sure it can feel good in the moment sometimes, but could it possibly be hurting us on the long-term? A bad posture example comes to mind.

You can't replace a bad habit with nothing. You need a new healthy habit instead.

@Leo Gura @Lento

The problem is that the pleasure i get off of the bad habit far outweighs that of any new habit i would install. Even though I still have some reasoning faculty to tell me that this is a huge deterrent for what I could have been. A part of me doesn't care as long as it gets to "feel good"

Early in my life, i used to ace everything, and then i had this desire to fail just to see what it is like. And be subtle and sneaky in destroying everything I seek out there in the world. A part of me still doesn't care, it is alike a parasite which sips on all the nectar it can get from the host and doesn't give two hoots about the host.

I don't know whether I am the parasite or the host. I have become the devil himself. I use Leo's teachings to further my own agenda, that of hijacking my reason and my bodily resources to a hedonistic lifestyle. I fool myself into saying - Yes, I'll do the said thing, and then avoid doing it one way or another. Self-deception at its finest.

My question is : How do I get a big picture understanding of what i'm doing and hopefully get on the path which is meant for me? (Actually, ever since I got accustomed to the idea that there is no path meant for me, or inherent meaning, i have taken that to mean, that i could do anything and it wouldn't matter)

That's karma and requires consciousness to overcome.

You are stuck operating from the lower chakras, as they say. You basically live like an animal, shitting whenever you feel like it and then complaining about the mess.

@assx95 I’m sure it’s been mentioned but perhaps try ‘not trying’ for a change and figure this guilt trip out? Does one who suffers not, behave as such?

I overheard that certain kinds of Yoga can be helpful. Also Shamanic Breathing is amazing and works well for me.

Side question: how long have you been addicted?

That's karma

I found your video about karma. Nice video.

But, you made a little funny mistake in this video. You said "your nigga" and corrected by saying "your negative karmic cycle". That was real funny.
