Burgeois the enemy?

8 posts in this topic

I was watching a kind of a lecture on YouTube of a local university (it's a federal university actually). I studied there for more than 4 years, but I couldn't stand the ideologies and had a lot of depression and other mental health issues, so I dropped out.

The video was essentially about the Development Ideology, the idea that we have to develop our country here in Brazil and that in order to evolve, we need progress. It talked a lot about our history with dictatorship and how Capitalism corrupted us and the world.

I really like many ideas of the video, but I still can't buy one of their ideas: "the burgeois are the enemy." (they clearly state it in the video)

They also talked a lot about Bolivarianism and Socialism.

I understand that Capitalism is not a perfect system, but I think it's too extreme to say that the burgeois are the enemy, that Socialism is perfection and that rich people just explore others.

It comes from a university where I studied, where I have many friends and acquaintances and that influences a lot the young people of my city and country. My social circle is a lot about people that have such mindset (even because I studied Graphic Design there, so guys tended to be left wings).

What do you think about it? Why these people think the burgeois are the enemy? How people with such mindset behave? How to communicate with them in order to exchange useful information and have a productive conversation? By the way, is it an unhealthy aspect of Green?

Because, really, I like some ideas of them, but I still can't buy this idea that rich people are bad. I want to understand them better.

Edit: sorry for posting on Self-Actualization, because it should be in Society, Environment, Government, Politics section. My mistake.

People who say "bourgeois are the enemy" often are stuck in victim mentality. They also carry a lot of entitlement, but don't contribute much value to the world.

I would stay away from these people, they often live mediocre lives and share toxic ideas that are disempowering. Also, their identity is often wrapped up in the ideology, so persuasive argument won't work. The best way to help them grow is to be a role model yourself.

I have never met anyone if high success and self esteem that shared the same beliefs.

Thank you! I have many close people that I can't just stay away that have this kind of ideology. It's really difficult to have a conversation with them, but I was willing to try. The idea of being a role model is a good one.

There are no enemies, only projected shadows of one's own mind.

Rich people are inevitable and part of the larger unfolding of love and consciousness. With that said, income inequality is an issue we can work to improve.

All notions of "bad" are relative to one's survival agenda.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

Even if income inequality is low, if the average and the bottom are miserable, it's miserable.

Income inequality is not a direct predictor of quality of life.

Income inequality is secondary to quality of life. Quality of life is the primary goal.

I'm open to the possibility of a world where both income inequality and quality of life are high.

@Leo Gura projection is a good way to describe their behavior. Thank you :)

We still can work for sure on income inequality, because Capitalism may explore people a lot. But the person herself needs to be aware of her own value.

@CreamCat good point!

@Apparition of Jack not sure of it. It depends on the needs of each one. A materialistic person may never get satisfied even if she earned U$ 1,000,000,000.00 a year. But a world-traveller may find it enough to make just U$ 100,000.00 a year for his/her travels and lifestyle.

But, yeah, if you mean people who can't make money even to buy food, it's for sure a negative impact on the quality of life.

Just reaching the point where you earn 100,000 USD per year is not easy if you are doing it from scratch.

When you compare your income to richer people, you may feel humble. But, if you are making 100,000 USD per year, you are doing better than most people.
