Your life purpose and karma

8 posts in this topic

I have a question regarding your life purpose and karma. I heard Leo saying in one of his videos that any action done in the name of the self is selfish and will have negative consequences eventually but he also talks extensively on how important it is to find your life purpose. I think I have found my life purpose or at least for now but I am confused to know if my life purpose is  just souly to serve myself? How do you reconcile this ? Surely lots of very successful peoples life purpose which got them to where they they are was to serve there self? Is the answer  that your life purpose will probably be selfish but if you follow it, it will eventually lead you to this realisation and lead you to a path to enlightenment? this is my only confusion so far.

Note: I am aware not everyones lifes purposes are selfish.

@themovement what Leo was getting at is being selfish to the detriment of others is bad.

Life purpose often has an aspect of contribution to the world, be that sharing your art, products or services to the world. Being selfish while you work on your life purpose is more about filling your bucket from the never-ending stream of creativity, so you can share the water with others when you overflow. It has nothing to do with taking others water, which is pure selfishness.

That is true, when I really dig deep about my lifes purpose its really about self expression and helping others in any way that I can. I guess being from the west my ego gets in teh way of it sometimes and craves things like fame and validation which can interfere with the purity of my lifes purpose. I do resonate very much with teh way you put this is amazing. But I do get mindful of when my ego tricks me into thinking Im doing it for the good of  others but rather to get some kind of validation ect

@themovement Life purpose is whatever you are doing right now. You're either involved in life as a process or you're off in your head somewhere else.

Notice that the second option just causes you and others to suffer.

When you're living your life purpose conscious then you are liberating yourself and everyone around you. You're bringing spiritual energy into life rather than suffering

Life purpose has nothing to do with career. Not everyone has a career. Does that mean that only people who embark on a career can bring consciousness more into the world and transform it?

No.

Everyone has the potential for consciousness.

I agree but i feel your talking more about the internal life purpose we all share, but we all have to have some kind of external purpose in some way unless we live in a cave meditating all day.

Doing comes from being. Being doesn't mean sitting still in silence, it means being yourself and allowing life to live through you and express itself through you. Only that way will your doing have any true meaning and make you happy in life.

@Nickyy I do appreciate the input and agree but I feel you haven't really answered the actual question rather explained the deeper parts of what life purpose is which I have already heard before.

The act of talking about an external purpose is part of the false self. You either live a pseudo life as that false self or you live your real life . When you can learn to live your real life your "external" purpose will reveal itself.

@themovement Falsity means to strive for something. When you are just being then your external purpose makes complete sense to you as you're letting in new ideas that come from being aligned with life.

I shouldn't really say anymore than this, because you will turn it into a belief. You need to find out for yourself what life wants to do with you. The ego can never understand this

It may be that those guys who sat in caves was their external purpose at that time.

But that doesn't mean that everyone who contacts being will be sitting in a cave.
