Turning Stupid

I feel that doing nothing and meditating will make my mind lazy and stupid. Is this the case or is it my ego talking?

On the contrary actually. From my own experience meditation has made my mind more alert and aware of what is happening and how would that make you stupid, could you clarify that? I think that when you give your mind some rest it ends up coming up with better choices, ideas and solutions. Maybe also someone else can clarify this with more content, hopefully this helped :)

As long as you have awareness, you are fine :) But I understand what you mean, it is easy to fall into a kind of stupor (a state where you are relaxed, but a bit unconscious, with less clarity) .

If you want, and because the "Doing nothing" technique is closely related to Dzogchen in the tibetan tradition, I can send you a link that discusses it :)

Meditation dosn't make you stupid, meditation makes you realize how stupid you are. I'm not even kidding... ;)

I've been doing nothing now for - I don't know - maybe 10 months in combination with strong determination sits and I can report to you that it completely fucking

  • increased my concentration levels and the ability to concentrate for long hours like nuts
  • is responsible for me getting even better grades in university
  • gives me the opportunity to merge even more with my life purpose, studies and life in general
  • cured and cures all kind of neurosis like double-checking, being overly critical, smoking, ..
  • gives me way more fun when I go partying, having social obligations or whatever comes

This is be far one of the best tools I've used to get in contact with my intuition and by that to flow with whatever I do. It is the cure for your over-stimulated life.

They want reality, so I give 'em a fatal dosage.

What is stupid: allowing yourself to think/live through only your five senses. A regurgitation machine of the same muck over and over. You can't ALWAYS be doing doing doing.

In my own experience, I went through a phase for a few months where I felt like I was developing alzheimer's and I was lazy and I felt like I was getting way stupider. I might have just been realising that I already was stupid as @Sri McDonald Trump Maharaj says :D.

But as I started to clear out of that "ego fog" ,as Leo calls it, my mind became much, much clearer and focused. You no longer spend so much energy worrying about your image and how people view you and you stop over analysing irrelevant shit. Your capacity to handle life just sky-rockets. So I wouldn't worry about it too much. Listening to these two videos it seems like the brain sort of rewires itself for some time and after that it gets better.

Really your mind will find reasons to not do anything new, especially something that seems counter intuitive. What I've noticed I'd most things that don't help you in the long run watching TV,  eating crap, playing computer games, whatever, your mind has no problem with but when it comes to reading, meditating, other positive stuff your mind will give you a ton of reasons not to do it. You have to break through and make these new things a habit

@Olly

And what is so wrong exactly with "lazy" and "stupid"?

;)

Believe me, you will eventually learn to make these two characters (along with 9998 others) into your very best friends!
