Why people can move but stone can't?

26 posts in this topic

imaging an empty fish container only contains a quarter of sand.

human made by atom just like sand, and stone too. why this sand can move but that sand can't?

or, how come this sand in fish container can build itself with different shape that move or not move?

Built different. End

*edit* ok, let's be a bit less sarcastic - although my original reply stands. Your 'empty fish container' doesn't come close to scraping the surface of thinking about imagining how complex the physical world is. As such, they play by different rules

A stone is not complex. It's just a collection of molecules.

Humans are complex so they can move.

Robots are complex so they can can move.

To understand why they move, you will have to read 100s of books that talk about how humans or AI work.

An example I can give is, how you can move your arm. I am not going to talk about the exact physiology of muscle contraction, but the basic idea about how you can move your arm, let's say flexing your arm, is because your flexor muscles contract. Now how do they contract? Because of motor nerve impulses. How these impulses are fired? They are connected with the Central nervous system, the spinal cord and the brain. There are parts of the brain responsible for motor function, like cerebellum, basal ganglia etc.

First, he quotes Stephen Hawking, says that consciousness is like a computer program that based on our brain, which is hardware.

And then he replys, consciousness doesn't need hardware, but runs.

Then I guess, nobody touch this fish container, but the sand in it, can shape itself to become stone and human.

@yangmilun so you going to take everything he says as absolute truth?

Who even is he? Some guy on the Internet

You going to trust his conclusions about life even if they make no sense to you? Must mean you're wrong?

Quotes are bullshit. Unless you are deeply understanding of the context, they are meaningless.

I'm willing to bet I could quote mine Hawking to support an argument that the earth is flat

The organization of atoms is different between a fish and a grain of sand.

The mechanisms of that is interesting, imo.

Stones can move. I just threw one and it certainly moved.

And a beautiful example of intentionally missing the point

It's not missing the point, it's another point.

Often, human minds become contracted within a conditioned framework and it's helpful to come from a different angel, Yet here, it's probably not the best approach, so I edited my comment.

@yangmilun ok, ok. I think I see where you're coming from, and that this argument isn't going to help.

Explore in yourself what is the I that makes choices, and commands motion. The I that picks up a stone or a fork.

Dissect it

@Serotoninluv Could that stone have been thrown if there were no minerals in the body?
