Entertainment

9 posts in this topic

Is it a good approach to cut off all entertainment and try doing nothing instead? I'm currently struggling with this 30 day challenge I set for myself. Its my 2nd 30 day challenge but I have already failed about 5 to 6 times within 2 weeks. I plan on getting back on track tomorrow.

The place that I find myself failing this challenge is when the weekend comes and I have nothing to do. I'm currently in high school BTW. I somewhat struggle with social anxiety, a little bit of depression, in social situations I see that my energy is very low, and I don't really socialize so therefore I'm somewhat awkward. So that's why I really don't have nothing to do on the weekends.

I basically don't allow myself any stimulation because of how my 30 day challenge is setup.

To give you guys a glimpse at my 30 day challenge somethings I got on it are

- NoFap

- Eat Healthy

- Fasting (Starting Friday before 5 PM till Saturday 5 PM) <== The worst part because I get cravings of eating

- No entertainment: Random wasteful YouTube video, random internet surfing, Netflix or any type of shows, worldstarhiphop, and listening to too much music <== Main source of entertainment

- Waking up at 4:30

So what do you guys think I should do?

Man, that's really tough.. Try doing one thing at a time.. And entertainment is not inherently bad, it is why you are doing it.. Don't rush she take it one step at a time. ☺

You should focus more on gradually needing less fap and entertainment. Contemplate these two things for what they really are.

What are you doing while watching Netflix? World star? What are you doing while surfing the Internet aimlessly? You're filling in a void in time, you are hard wired to constantly be doing something. To have some kind of noise or distraction going to keep those god damned thoughts at bay. To constantly keep the mind busy. These things aren't bad, but they can become bad when you let them take control and you become addicted.

When you catch yourself doing these activities simply become more mindful of what's really happening. Once you see this for yourself you will care about these things less and you won't need to challenge yourself for 30 days.

Come on, 5-6 failures in the first half? You're just setting yourself up for disappoint. You start off by calling it a challenge. That already makes it feel harder than it really is.

Healthy eating and fasting is a much better way to challenge yourself, but you still need to make reasonable goals. Don't try to take on all of this at once. Try to achieve goals and collect good habits along the way.

Self actualizing can be difficult on its own, no need to complicate it further! Simplify things. Strengthen your focus on one or two things at a time.

30 day nofap? Without (again my beloved!) chasteberry: not doable (at least for me).

Eat healthy 99%. Allow sometimes to eat a bit of chocolate as a prize (like 1/4 bar a week).

Fasting is hard only during first 6~8 hours since first hunger feeling, after this it's a cakewalk. But I recommend drinking juices and teas while doing it.

Entertainment - super-easy. Read books. Write, paint, build, sculpture. Find new interests or maybe even join some group and socialize ;>?

I wake up sometimes at 5:30 to go running and it's enough early.

@jcgiusto Thanks I will just allow myself to watch entertainment because its better being on track doing something that would help oppose to something that I cant accomplish because the bar is to high. I also found out that I want things to happen quick like getting quick results which is why I put so much things on my 30 Day Challenge. Thanks again

@Corte Thanks I have made some adjustments to my challenge and I see it as something more doable or something more realistic to achieve now. But one thing I'm struggling with now is actually getting back on track. Like I keep seeing that I'm just saying that ill just start tomorrow again and again. Its been about two days or three days now that I been off track really badly. Thanks for your input

just sit with yourself for a few minutes and ask yourself why you started in the first place, where you are & where you want to be... These goals of yours are probably the best things you can be working towards right now.

Its much easier to put it off, just know you only have to put a little bit of effort into starting and that will grow over time and empower you. Try to get yourself inspired, read studies/blog posts/articles about benefits of your goals. Just a few suggestions :)
