Modafinil: maybe not so good for meditation

2 posts in this topic

Hello guys, I came across these studies:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4507735/

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2654794/

Correct me if Im wrong, but it seems that modafinil decreases theta and delta wavelengths in the brain, exactly the type of brainwaves we need to enter deep states of meditation.

Also, if you use visualizations/hypnosis, which require deep states of mind, maybe dont match well with modafinil.

And also, restoring of the body/brain happens at delta states, and you need to take into account that half-life of modafinil is 18 hours. That means that half of the dose of modafinil is still in your body when you go to sleep, probably reducing your delta waves.

I'm an almost daily user of modafinil so this concerns me a lot.

Modafinil is not good for meditation except very occasionally if you are very fatigued and don't have time to take a nap before meditation. If you want to reach the highest stages of meditation, you have to learn how to increase the power of mind without using stimulants. Best meditators have a lot of gamma brain waves in EEG.
