Inexplicable location based flashbacks.

Over the past year I have had these strange flashbacks that remind me of a particular place that has almost no significance to the thought I'm currently having. Any insights on this? I might cleaning a cup or throwing something in the trash and all a sudden I get a brief flash of "Oh, remember that one tennis tournament you had as a kid and you were sitting under that gazebo in a different city that you never returned to again?" Really, just random locations that bear no connection to what I'm doing. I have begun getting them quite often. It's really strange. 

I thought it might have been some mechanism of association between that place and my current thought but I can never think of anything that ties those place to anything I'm currently doing. I sometimes have places in my mind that are reoccurring but those places are down to maybe 3 locations that my minds eye has me wandering around from room to room in direction association with certain areas of contemplation. For example. I will hear a certain song in my head in a particular corridor of the building while exploring a particular topic. It almost acts as a architectural home for those thoughts to orient themselves in. Almost as if the thoughts are easier to navigate if they have a 3d space albeit imagined to organize themselves in. 

Does any of this resonate with anyone? Would love to hear some insights on what might be going on here independent of my level of understanding it.
