Afraid to take psycadelics because of risk of ruin my life

Weed is the perfect start-mild psychedelic if you're looking for that, consistently nice/good.

Mushrooms often went full blown existential even at a regular 3g dose, they are no joke.

But it's always a good idea to have 6-12 months of meditation practice and studying eastern philosophy before you do psy's, weed should be fine though if you use it respectfully and aren't already very neurotic (which a lot of people are).. it's still a psychedelic.

Do you have any idea as to why psychedelics are able to cure a pre-existing mental illness? Is it the power of Recontextualisation?

Or is the why completely irrelevant following the 'curing'.

because most mental illness are related to not being enlightened and having a cup full of shit.

yes recontextualizing.

Quote

The classical psychedelics (LSD, psilocybin, etc.) are not known to cause brain damage and are regarded as non-addictive. Research has also concluded there are no significant associations between lifetime and recent use of entheogens and no increased rate of mental health outcomes.

Rather, in several cases entheogen use was associated with a lower rate of mental health problems.

Psychedelics do not cause mental illness. This is mostly fearmongering.

If you have an existing mental illness perhaps psychedics can make it worse. Perhaps. But they could also cure it.

My friend's mothers brother ex-girlfriend smoked weed (i have done that 10+ times) after her third joint She got schizophrenia. And his sister's friends played around with psychedelics and one of them have never been the same again. These things have scared me off. I have no mental illness. I know what I want to with my life (at least for now) and my mom told me my fam have no history of mental illness (at least for my grandparents)  but I am still afraid of that. I want to try shrooms because I want to explore the fabric of reality and mby help me to quit sugar

She probably already had a predisposition for schizophrenia. Some substances can accelerate the development of such conditions, but it won't actually cause them. I remember watching about a guy who had his development of schizophrenia accelerated by having a gun pointed to his head. There are many triggers for it.

Whether you can safely integrate insights from psychedelics or you get lost in them is largely dependent on you. Some people overestimate their own capabilities and traumatize themselves by doing it too much. To minimize risk this is why you start small and work up.

I've recovered from schizophrenia by the way, which was active after my 2nd mushroom trip from 16-18, after taking meditation more seriously/studying advaita/Mooji.

It's all about not believing in thoughts, not feeding the ego twisted up in false beliefs, devotion to truth, right living. Some need a wake up call through heavy experiences, and almost everyone will probably think they are going insane on this path.

Hearing voices or seeing things does not have to be a problem once you know yourself even a little bit more deeply, that you are not obliged to do anything, and that God can take care of life himself and that people can be helped through His power themselves, you are free, period.

Give responsibility to Her first and foremost.

@krockerman If you don’t have issues with mental illness and don’t have a strong strong family history of mental illness, the risks are very very low, unless you start off with monster doses.

As well, you seem to be in an either / or mentality when you say “I’m afraid of taking psychedelics”. What does this mean? If that means taking 1,000 ug of LSD, using psychedelics three times a day everyday or tripping in Grand Central Station N.Y. during rush hour - then I would be afraid as well.

You can microdose or min-dose. You can dose one time or once every six months. Perhaps a mini-dose once every few months feels right for you. Or perhaps a mini-dose opens a door and you feel curious to explore more. Or maybe not. . . The mind loves to create problems that don’t exist. If you are curious, try a few micro or mini doses and see how it goes. The risk here is much lower than the risk of eating unwashed fruits and vegetables.

That's the key. The main problem is people don't know what the do when they realize they are not the thinker of thoughts. (I am talking because it happened to me). It drives the ego nuts. But is silly really.

Once you realize that there's nothing that can make you go "crazy". Fear makes no sense.

Part of spiritual work is facing our fears. Standard doses of psychedelics may involve experiences that are uncomfortable. If that seems scary and overwhelming to you, you can try low doses of psychedelics. If that is still too scary and overwhelming, then you are not ready to explore consciousness with psychedelics. If that is the case, try something else. There are other ways to explore consciousness.

Ye Abra.

Also a lot of the 'schizophrenia', is people opening up to the spiritual reality, of mysticalness, synchronicity, etc.

And the sheer unbelief that often brings with it,  and the emotional baggage that brings up: 'I'm crazy, I'm bad, I am certainly a stupid separate entity', and the rejection of it from culture + an arrogant fool of a psychiater that studied BS for 10+ years or so, that will definitely want you to affirm his paradigm, take his stupid meds, and just listen to the doc

how old are you (or did I miss that?). scientists have concluded that *generally* males develop mental health issues earlier in age, and females tend to develop later in life. so if your a guy, and your concerned about this, then waiting till your mid20s would reduce your chances of developing a mental illness (if you were already destined to get it). But that is just a statistical thing, there are obviously lots of guys who could get sick in their 30s and 40s (which means that they could fast track their illness if they took psyches in their 20s. but even then, its just a possibility. its really a coin toss man, just know that sooo many people have taken them and the amount of people who get sick from them is very very low)

Also: Start at low dosage, wait at least a month between another trip (ideally between all your trips), have a good set and setting each and every time. Most people who claim to have gotten sick from them seem to either take too much, too often, and/or in wrong settings (partying).
