Questions On Leo's "how To Stop Comparing Yourself To Others" Video

4 posts in this topic

Hello! :D

I have several questions regarding Leo's video.

1) Self-Worth Does Not Exist

a) How does valuing your health play a role?

b) If self-worth does not exist, can I be an asshole? Punching people, lying to them, breaking stuff

Or does it mean I have to place everyone with the same amount of respect? " Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself?

I find it hard to give respect to mass murderers such as Hitler or the slut at my school.

2) Human Beings are Too Complex to Care

a) There are people out there that are much better then me in every possible single way. Looks, income, power, prestige, hot wife, many awards, Harvard summa cum laude, etc

Is it it illogical to compare yourself to these people? Or should I not because Leo said that for every great aspect about a person, there's a terrible flaw. (Hmm...when I think about it now. Every single successful person who did seem to have it all also had very terrible if not several terrible flaws)

3) Competition

From what I got out of that point is that we should be creators that build stuff that are bigger than ourselves. Someone like Bill Gates or Elon Musk

4) Yes, I Have Handicaps

I can kinda understand focusing your strengths and not your weaknesses. What if you're obese and have been a procrastinator your entire life?

5) Fake vs Authentic Uniqueness

I kinda understand that. What if your authentic self is a psychopathic killer or a pervert that likes to make sexual jokes and jerk off everyday?

6) Scarcity

What if you major in worthless degree such as Janitorial Philosophy?

7) Adding Lists
Kinda understand this.

If you see something you want from another successful person, you add it to your list, right?

What if you add all of those things on your list and then you find out the hard way that the stuff you've acquired never made you happy in the first place? (He talks about that we are never satisfied and always hungry)

8) Productivity

Leo says that we can also be as productive as the most productive person we know. Unfortunately, the most productive person that I've read about is Elon Musk. With his 100 hour week trying to run Tesla, SpaceX, SolarCity, and other ventures, how is that sustainable? I mean the man is practically married to his career, and marriages are like affairs with him. Also, how about Nikola Tesla who only slept on average 2 hours a night? I've read a lot of articles online stating that working more than 40 hours of week drops your productivity DRASTICALLY. Additionally, sleeping less than 7 hours is like very, very bad.

And finally,

I'm interested in learning more about this topic and the other things he's talked about in this video, what are some books I can read into that would help give me a deeper understanding?

That's all for now. I apologize for the somewhat messy format. I like asking a lot of questions. Btw, I'm 16 years old, so I don't have much life wisdom, yet. :)

I'm really hoping someone can answer these questions in a somewhat indepeth format. I really want to improve my life and am already making progress in doing so. Again, thank you. :)

Bump. I would like some help please. You don't have to answer all of them though.

I don't quite understand all of the questions you're asking.

For two of them, going around being an asshole will have negative results on any growing you're trying to do. Yes, it's illogical to compare yourself to anyone, especially people much much more accomplished than you. This is nothing more than feeding your ego.

Also, serial killers, jerkoffs, sex addicts, all of this is extremely negative, unconscious, unaware, animalistic products of ego. None of this can be your "true self" nor an excuse to act out in these ways.

Leo sells a huge list of books he recommends, I would start there. Or just pick up any book in self help, spirituality, psychology, even science, and get started.

Its great that you are interested in these topics while in high school. It's also great that you are questioning reality and seeking truth. Keep at it, it will have amazing benefits in the years to come.

Most of what you are asking here is the first thing you could come up with that could be a loophole to these theories. There are no loopholes. All of this work takes many hours and strict dedication. There are no easy ways out, no shortcuts or quick fixes. All of this is true honest work from the core of your being.

Try to go through the questions you have about Leo's video again and simplify what you are asking. What are the main things you are trying to understand? I will try to help as much as I can.

If you don't value your health, you will become sick and you will suffer as a consequence. Creates negative results in your life.

You can if you like. Do you want to do that stuff? What sort of consequences would that have on your life? More negative results.

Everyone acts from their ego doing what they think is right (for them). You included. Maybe you're not a mass murderer but you did just ask if you could become an asshole, punch people and break stuff. So why would you ask that? Then criticise others. You may not agree with Hitler's agenda or the agendas of murderers, but should you respect them? What's wrong with being a slut? Isn't that their choice? How does that affect you and your life? Besides, who are you to judge them anyway? Actually you don't have to think anything about these people. Just worry about your own life. People like that will always be out there, it's just fact of life. You can sit there and judge them or you can get on with creating a life for yourself.

'Better' is subjective. What makes those things better? Does better equal happy and fulfilled? Better for them may not be better for you. You're just looking at the world from a 'deficiency' mindset - "what do others have that I don't have"? As if having something you don't is better and would make you happy. This is an illusion and a trap. Stop worrying about what other people are doing.

Yes.

Why compare yourself to anyone? You are you, they are them. Your life is about you. And what works for others may not work for you. And you also can't get a true insight in to people's lives from the outside. You have no idea how happy and fulfilled people really are. Just because they appear 'successful' doesn't make them so psychologically or behind closed doors.

People spend too much of their lives looking at what everyone else is doing and not focussing on creating their own life. You should be too busy building your own life to have time to compare yourself to others or even care what others are doing.

3) Competition

Competition is an ego game.

Lose weight and learn how to be more productive. Make use of your strengths but keep working on your weaknesses.

It depends if it is something that you truly value and want in your own life. Be careful with this concept of 'success'. It isn't what you might think it is.
