What is the function of suffering?

What function does suffering have?

Leo wrote in a post that suffering was created by the devil to stop you merging into God, and that if you mindfully observe suffering you will be God.

So does this imply that avoiding suffering should not be done if your goal is to be God?

Where I'm confused is, this goes against the functioning of eastern karma; what comes around goes around.  For example lets say you saw someone drop 1000 dollars on the ground. You have 2 decisions, 1) pick it up unoticed or 2) tell the person they dropped it. If you choose 1) you will develop karmic patterns that cause you to suffer more. This can manifest in many ways including developing your ego to be more selfish, or having a fear of being caught. If you choose 2) you will suffer less.

Originally I would choose 2) but if avoiding suffering is a development of the ego to stop you from being God, then 1) may be the better option.

Shadow work and psychopherapy are methods wholly designed to relieve suffering. Are these methods therefore keeping you from realizing God?

@electroBeam That’s confusing because you are present and aware, now. You are actually not in that thought story. In not noticing this, you suffer as if you were.

Notice how mindbendingly simple this is, that by acknowledging what you just typed is just a thought, and only a thought.

If you raise an object from a ground, it resists because of the gravity.

Homeostasis is there to stop too much change in the system.

I think suffering as resistance. If you stop resisting suffering will be gone.

Also things happen in life that you dont want (Conditional happiness) so you create suffering as a reaction to the things happening.  Like you partially want to suffer because things dont meet your conditions of happiness and you partially want to change them because the suffering you create is not pleasurable (unless you create it pleasurable)

In my view suffering is there for no reason and its just a by-product of not being conscious enough.

Also I dont count pain and sadness as suffering. Suffering is like an added layer up on them.

Go turn on the burner in your kitchen and try to stick your hand as close to it as you can.

As you do that, ask yourself: What is the function of suffering?

You'll get an answer real quick without a lot of mental masturbation.

This work is not about theories. This work requires that you observe actuality.

The best time to contemplate what fear is for, is when a bear is chasing you through the woods. That's when your contemplation gets some traction ;)

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

Mindfully observing is not avoiding.

Also, your intention comes into play. So whether you return the wallet or not you’ve been karmically judged. You can’t pull a fast one that easy ?@electroBeam

@electroBeam doing what is counter intuitive to the ego may causes short term discomfort or suffering - like your example -  but in the long term or higher sense you are diminishing suffering and aligning with God.  It is counterintuitive.

You don't need suffering to realize God, drop that belief.

All you need is Love :)

It does not matter what you choose.

Both good and bad Karma are irrelevant to God-realisation. The only function of Karma is morality, and the only function of morality is to keep other people from killing you.

That being said, as long as you resist suffering, you will not be able to see God. Just as much as you resist anything else.

As long as you resist, you will still be a devil, and you will suffer.

Accept everything, including resistance, and see God.

Have you heard of people who won't be attacked by wild animals because their energy/aura is more dominant than those animals?

I think animals will only attack you when you're scared of them. Or when you messed up with them. When they felt danger coming from you. Or when both felt danger coming from each other. Hence the survival reaction of both.
