A question about Meditation Mastery

5 posts in this topic

Hi,

I am working on mastering meditation and have probably logged in about 350 hours of sitting meditation over the last 2 years.

I am on the track to get to 10,000 hours but am curious. Does it count towards mastery if i am just being mindful throughout the day, can i count that time towards the 10K hours?

It is a bit difficult because it is not mastering something like boxing, where the time put into it is tangible. Meditation is in your head so technically if you are really aware and i am sure this would be increasing as you go longer, the hours a day get higher and higher

-thanks

It´s no strictly neccesary to do formal "sits". You can practice dynamic meditations or being mindful during daily activities aswell.

It first of all depends on what type of meditation you do.

Lots of people like to sit and try to not think, others like shifting their thinking inward, while some like to project and control images and their mind.

As well, you don't get points for how many hours you push a stone up a hill. "Mastery" is an illusion that you only discover when you are a master. "Divine paradox".

Sorry friend, but keep on the path towards your intuition and you will synchronize. If your intuition is weak then you need more experience. After that you need to flush that experience out of you. In, and out. Breathing in the unison of the universe.

Don't understand?

Then keep pushing the stone up the hill.

Meditation is not "in your head". Meditation is surrender, it is not a demand of any sorts. It is not forcing existence your way, it is relaxing into the way existence is, its about "letting go" and in letting go, the mind eventually calms down and becomes still. When you are truly still, that's when you are truly meditating and then you are simply aware. Awareness is not from the mind/head. Awareness is "just being" in itself.
