Talking behind others backs

5 posts in this topic

All my life I've experienced friendships where this was a very common occurrence, myself included. A few friends of mine we didn't do that, and those felt like the healthiest relationships I had

Is this a common occurrence? Is this something to be tolerated?

From my perspective it seems as though conversations should be had about this topic with the people involved, and if it continues, then perhaps they're not someone you want to keep too close.

@NoSelfSelf

that's what I was thinking

I'm not sure if I'm interested in friendships where there is shit talking and not respect behind the scenes

I think I will have a talk with them, and if not I will have to look for other friends

What do you think?

Its ok to talk about your friends with other people. For example tell a cool story or what you like about them. Just dont critique them when they are not around and never gossip. Work on your own problems instead of focusing on others.

Talking bad of others gives you a sense of connection when you both agree on how they are bad. But its also a bad habit to have so the new friends that you connected with will think bad about you. They might suspect you will talk bad about them as well. There are other ways to form a connection with someone. For example connecting through experiences or sharing your feelings.
