What is the distinction between Thoughts and Emotions?

@seeking_brilliance As@Consilience  stated they both arise in consciousness.  There really isn't a body or a brain.  Its just consciousness.  You are a section of universal consciousness which is also capable of thinking and feeling.

I agree. Given that they arise in consciousness, and awareness ensures our understanding of the wider environment, we also need to ensure that our understanding of the words emotions and thoughts is common with those we are interacting with.

For me thought or thought patterns come from out beliefs and emotions are an outcome of that belief.   Other than emotions of joy and love I'm overly keen on emotions.

I tend to distinguish emotions by the fact that they emote me to action when I surrender. They are expressed through subtle (or not) body movements. Think dancing for example.

Totally agree on dancing, I love dancing, the emotions incited to get you up and the often reminiscent feelings while flying around the dance floor.

@Pouya They are interconnected, the distinction is practical/arbitrary.

I do not find it true that emotions are non-symbolic. They are their own language and go unnoticed most of the time.

Interpretation given by instinct. Interesting.

@Pouya @Shadowraix do you distinguish between intuition and instinct? Can you write something about the two?

Bearing with the conditioned in gentleness, fording the river with resolution, not neglecting what is distant, not regarding one's companions; thus one may manage to walk in the middle. H11L2

@tsuki It's hard for me to say what boundary is between them. Intuition caused by instinct? Instinct based in intuition?

Thoughts manifest as mental words, sounds and/or images. Emotions happen in the body and are triggered by thoughts.

For instance, the thought "I am late" can trigger anxiety and accelerate your heart beats.

@ajasatya so in the "no-mind" state you can have no thoughts (or very low) but have geniune feelings?

It depends on what you mean by "genuine". I'd say that you can have feelings that are less intoxicated by the experiences of the avatar you're living.

True existential contemplation is prior to "I'm a man/woman", "My name is X" or "I want to be Y".

Oooo good topic! I haven't thought about that. My first impression is that instinct is like a simplified form intuition. It's hard to adapt instinct since it triggers for whatever it is set to do. It's a much more primal survival mechanism. But yet intuition seems to be much more adaptive. It changes with and takes into account everything you experience while instinct remains largely static.

I suspect instinct is a bit more nuanced than what I said above but I can't quite put my finger on where it begins and ends especially for humans.

@Shadowraix I've read that instinct is physiological, and intuition is psychological.  The primal instinct you mention goes to gut feel. I agree that intuition is adaptive and for me becomes more refined the more aware I become.
