Is BEING worth cutting off all of my addictions?

30 posts in this topic

@seeking_brilliance Are there any books or videos that can help me learn about that? it sounds like a great deal for me.

I'm not worried about craving the dream world, I stopped clinging to things, my addictions are just old patterns from before I started getting into Personal Development.

BEING is infinitely more satisfying than doing anything or even getting ones nuts drained by 100 chicks.

That's what I wanted to hear. If it's infinitely more satisfying, then it's worth it. I was asking because right now music is satisfying for me, and I don't want to struggle against it unless I am convinced that there will be more satisfaction in the end. Thank you ❤️

@ajasatya That's great to hear, I'm glad for you, thanks for sharing your experience ❤️

@Inliytened1 I'm kind of following my heart into this, it feels better to not be attached to things. And I'm not even talking about finding Truth, although I want that too, I'm just talking about discovering deeper levels of peace and happiness. In your experience, can you sit comfortably and effortlessly without distracting yourself with any stimulations or activities?

@mandyjw That's absolutely right Mandy. To me, it feels like Classical Conditioning: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_conditioning and we end up getting hooked up to stimulations all the time.

@Anna1 I'm more interested in self-control and emotional mastery. According to Leo, an addiction is anything that you can't spend seven days without having cravings for it. I crave music after one or two days. I had developed that addiction (doesn't really matter what I call it) over the years while I was depressed, I used music as a distraction, but now it's an old pattern that I think of removing, along with some other old patterns.

Sure, it's not hurting anyone, I just want more fulfilling and productive behaviours in my life.

I'm not saying I don't want music, actually, it's really an enjoyable activity. It's just that I want to listen to music at will, not like I need to, and same goes for my other behaviours. That's all.

You're taking it in the wrong way.

Being will cure you of you're addictions, and not the other way around.

You can't cure an addiction until you raise in awareness, you can try and may succeed, but it will either come back or create an another one.

You won't be able to control anything about that, the will to do certain thing will just drop, sometimes instantly.

I'm not saying to not do anything, but if you want to quit an addiction, then you need to study the negative effects of it, being deeply conscious when it happens, so the theories match the reality.

Just quitting for morals reason doesn't work.

@Inliytened1 This is so nice to hear, I love that ❤️

@Shin I see what you mean buddy, and I assure you, the how-to is not a problem for me. I'm trying to measure what quitting addictions can yield for me, is quitting them more or less rewarding than what I usually get from the addictions themselves? That's what I'm asking.

Thanks for everyone for your contributions ❤️

I've come to the conclusion that yes, it will actually be a lot more rewarding. I will try to completely cut off all of my addictions after Ramadan, I don't think it's wise to drop them all right now, although I'll start limiting some of them right away.

Maybe, I might decide to not give up my addictions after all. I'm not having any problems with them.

Hi.

I've not read the whole thread yet to be fair. Will do.

My idea of addiction is to repeatedly and often with a sense of compulsion do something for a perceived reward despite current or likely negative health consequences as a result of the behaviour. Stopping the behaviour abruptly would bring discomfort.

My definition of health is very broad. It could include financial loss, esteem loss, social loss etc.

If there are no real problems or consequences with the behaviour is it an addiction?

Thinking out aloud to myself really rather than nitpicking your definition or making out I disagree with you.

I think it will totally be worth it. This is because according to Leo in his video of overcoming addiction he emphasize that one way to look at a self actualized life is free from all addictions.
