Modafinil messes with my mind

9 posts in this topic

So I have ADD (attention deficit disorder) up the ass and it really helps me to concentrate on something when I have to work. However, it's been 4 days since I've taken it and my nerves are still paying the price for it. I also feel a bit of dissassociation, I'm here but my mind is elsewhere.

I take a low dose of 50 mg, 3 times a week. Is it worth it?

@Fountainbleu That is a low dose and frequency. You may be hyper sensitive to it, or perhaps some additional environmental inputs are contributing as well.

@Serotoninluv thanks for responding. I'm definitely hyper sensitive to all stimulants. Can't even drink green tea honestly

No drug is worth taking. Not acid or sensi or modafinil. Think about the price your liver and braincells pay in order to have a cheap lazy fix of altered consciousness. Stick to meditation and you will be fine. Non directive meditation is the best. Meditation is how I became enlightened.

@Serotoninluv whaddya think do the side effects outweigh the benefits in my case?

That can be a difficult question to answer. I’ve also had a pattern of ADD symptoms and know how disruptive it can be in life. Substances can help, yet as you mention can carry side effects.

Personally, I would try a variety of different things and in different combinations. For example, caffeine / sugar intake, stress, triggers for distraction, meditation, practices to relax the mind-body, sources of neurosis, blocks, sleep quality, exercise etc. I’m not opposed to substances and I’ve used them beneficially - yet there is more going on than an one substance can fix and I think it’s helpful to look at the big picture of my lifestyle and how that is contributing to the symptoms. For example, after spending a couple weeks in a remote village in Belize, I reached very relaxed states of mind-body. Stress and worry dissolved and I became highly in tune with the environment and felt connected to the people in the village. ADD symptoms were greatly reduced - perhaps by 70%, without any substances. Upon returning home to “real life” and work, the symptoms started intensifying again. This indicated that its not simply “just how my brain is wired”. Something else is also going on.

yes i have recently tried modafinil and was not impressed by the side effects. The major one being an inability to sleep/take naps even when i feel i would like to. Also near the end of a day when ive been on modafinil the "come off" effects feel pretty bad for me, like very subtle/small waves of disorientation and lack of focus. However the following day I would feel quite sharp and calm

@Fountainbleu Its a bit odd for you to be so sensitive to even green tea and not be able to handle it.

Hark ye yet again — the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event — in the living act, the undoubted deed — there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there's naught beyond. But 'tis enough.
