This is a very stark example of what modern day materialism looks like. Very interesting, shows what materialism is capable of.

This is not new. Roman empire also hired private militia to aid its military campaigns. It also seemed common for rich people to own private militia centuries ago.

Some big medieval guilds also owned private militia.

It seems that private militia was more private centuries ago. The modern private militia is often an extension of national army.

Was the world more materialistic centuries ago because private militia was owned more privately?
