What you guys are overlooking is that my natural body shape is very tall and lean. Don't compare me to guys like Joe Rogan who are short, squat, and beefy-looking.

To look buff, I would have to add 60 pounds of muscle onto a 6'2" frame. This is not sustainable or healthy for me.

Remember that people have fundamentally different body types (regardless of fat or muscle). There are endomorphs, mesomorphs, and ectomorphs. (And also xenomorphs ;) ) I was always an ectomorph. An ectomorph who happened to be fat due to poor diet.

Muscles do not scale proportionally if your body goes from 5'8" to 6'2". You will become leaner and it will be much harder for you to look buff at 6'2" than at 5'8". Of course there are some tall endomorphs like The Rock. But that ain't me.

That theory is complete bullshit though. Not based in medicine.

@Andreas It's not bullshit. Go to the gym and observe people's body types. Trust your eyes, not videos or "science".

Observe females too. You can clearly spot female endomorphs vs ectomorphs. Some girls are super skinny and it's not a diet thing. Some girls are beefy. You can clearly see this by watching porn.

Underlying body type is independent of fat or muscle.

You can also see this in animals. Some breeds of dog are naturally very skinny while others are squat. Compare a grey hound to a pitbull.

I am like a grey hound. Joe Rogan is like a pitbull.

The mistake is expecting a grey hound to be like a pitbull. That mistake is on you, not the grey hound. The grey hound is designed for speed. If you were a careful observer, you would notice the perfection of its design rather than judging it.

@Leo Gura now explain the hair

One’s center is not one’s center, it is the center of the whole.

And the ego-center is one’s center.

That is the only difference, but that is a vast difference.-

lol it's not peoples genetics who make them big or small it's what they eat and how much they move. Denying science when it's convenient. How come the human population have overweight stats of 70% and 50 years ago they were all normal? xD

Environment. That's all.

@Andreas Before you go spouting your "science" at me, learn what an independent variable is. You devil.

Body type is INDEPENDENT of fat or muscle.

If you overfeed a greyhound it will be fat. But it will never look like a pitbull.

There are plenty of studies controlling for independent variables. About 3% effect in peoples weight. Humans have approximately 99,9% the same genetics. Using the word science in fancy quotation marks is not going to change that.

@Andreas People like you make a mockery of science.

Dogs also have 99.9% the same genetics. But that 0.1% is very fucking important. That 0.1% is enough to make you retarded, insane, crippled, or born with two heads.

Thank you for you compliment. It may be true that the 0,1% difference can make a big difference between individuals. It is still clear that genetics only have about 3% effect on peoples weight. I got that from Harvard.

It's an interplay between genetics and environment. There are clearly genes that will alter a body type and there are clearly environmental factors as well. An individual with a defect in the growth hormone gene WILL be small. It doesn't matter what that person eats or how much they exercise.

And the composition of microbes in your gut is an extremely strong predictor of obesity. It is one of the major influencers.

It's not just weight. Genetics has a big influence on body structure. In Leo's example the difference between a greyhound and pitbull. Genetics plays a huge role in that. There can still be fat pit bulls and fat greyhounds - they will still have different body types.

For example, an individual with genetic alterations leading to hypo activity of the anterior pituitary gland - will have a small body. In extreme cases, they will be a dwarf. We could still have a fat dwarf or a skinny dwarf - yet that is very different than a person will hyper activity of the pituitary gland - Andre the Giant had this condition. His body type was very different than the "munchkins" in the Wizard of Oz. They had the opposite genetic condition.

@Andreas I will do that after you get in touch with the Pope and correct him on his understanding of the Bible.

Well sure people look different than each other that makes perfect sense. You can just look at skin color and it's obvious. But the general size of people is in my view largely due to the environment. If we spoil back 50 years people look vastly different. Same genetics today, just different environment. The gut bacteria is also effected by the environment. I also think that the psychology of people have a big impact.

@Andreas Why can’t it be both? The difference between “mini-me” and Andre the Giant shows genetics can have a big impact. Their body difference is due to one single gene.  We can turn a future nba basketball player into a dwarf by changing two nucleotides in the zygotes DNA.

You are not making the distinction between body structure and weight. There are fat dwarfs and skinny dwarfs as well as fat giants and skinny giants.

The environment and the way of living has an hugh inpact of which genes will play a significant role and which genes will be supressed and shutted off, so i think it must be both as serotoninluv says.

I don't know much about Biology, but I know the first law of thermodynamics. Which in short states that you cannot get energy out of nothing. And I assume this happens a lot faster today than it did 50 years ago with the same genetics. Same with Africa where people die from malnutrition. There seems to be good evidence supporting the environmental factors.

Yea but what would happen if two people with different genetics got the same psychology from the same upbringing and the exact same environment? I am pretty sure we would get about the same weight.

It’s both genetics and environment. And again, you are not making the distinction between body structure and fat composition.

If you put a baby Andre the Giant and a baby “mini me” in the exact same environment and diet, you would still end up with a giant and a dwarf. The difference in their body types was due to a difference in one single gene.

I am using an extreme example to highlight this distinction.

Well I assume this would show up in the results when they are trying to modell how much bodymass a person has. If someone is physically bigger they would weigh more.
