Is Enlightenment just another perspective?

16 posts in this topic

What makes Enlightenment different from other 'perspectives', as it is said to be just a new perspective on everything we thought we know?

Where does its absolute Truth (with capital T as Leo always says) come from?

Or is it just the acknowledgement (perspective) that EVERYTHING is a perspective, thus everything being infinite?

Or is this just impossible to describe/explain in words due to the very nature of Enlightenment being NOT symbolic/second-hand ?

Was just thinking about this, because when explaining it as good as possible to my girlfriend, she always says: But how do you know then that THIS is the ultimate Truth that cannot be falsified? If it is an experience you must have, how do you know that this EXPERIENCE is true and not just another mindgame?

Curious what you guys think <3

You are on the path of defining enlightenment and that will not go anywhere. If you press me i'll tell you that the Self (your real, enlightened nature) is perspective 0, that is absence of perspective as an individual, but even that misses the mark.

You are trying to have enlightenment fit your logical framework of perspectives, but it really doesn't belong here. The frame of reference (Enlightenment as a perspective, like how materialism is a perspective) will not capture enlightenment within, because the Self comes first, then the frames of reference. What you are doing is like trying to hold on to your "fist" and simultaneously opening your palm.

It doesn't come from anywhere. It is the source from which everything else comes from.

No. It has nothing to do with what you as an individual do or believe in. But it does end up in the notion of individuality vanishing in the end.

Something like this.

But how do you know then that THIS is the ultimate Truth that cannot be falsified?

Because, like i said, it has nothing to do with belief to begin with. It has more to do with the fact that you exist. Your girlfriend can't deny her existence, can she? The fact of her existence is proof of the Self, which exists whether or not you believe in it. The problem is that people identify with their bodies, saying that "this body here is I" when in fact the "I" comes first, then the body.

Your girlfriend is very smart, that kind of thinking is the one who can take her (or both) to find the real truth.

I am not enlightened, but all the masters say that enlightenment is a non-event, a non-experience... you don't experience enlightenment.

You become what you are...

I totally agree here. Let's say, for example, you become a black hole. You don't just see it; you are the black hole. You're not an embodied human anymore. Imagine how it feels like before you become it? No you can't. Afterwards, how is it that you're going to convince yourself that it's the Truth? See...that's a good question.

@Key Elements  I think Alan Watts has great "metaphors" for becoming what you are.

He says that is like biting your own teeth, smelling your own nose, seeing your own eye, taste your tongue... hehehe...

You can't see what you are. Right?

A perspective implies a point of view.

There is no point of view.

God is love

Whoever lives in love lives in God

And God in them

Yes, you can. You don't have a dimension. You don't have time and distance. Anything understood in this life does not apply to Truth.

Thanks for all your answers, I have to ponder them. But I now know (again) that it is about actually doing the work and not philosophizing about it. It just does not make sense to think of it from an egoic consciousness standpoint.

The knife can't cut itself.

That's why words are so hard to explain it. When I said "you can't" I was referring to the ego, the small I.

@Frankie10

I don't have anything to add here.

I stopped working towards finding Truth, I'm now more concerned with removing the illusion.

Maybe if I remove all of my illusions, then Truth might show up by Itself.

I think it's better to start with removing the illusion instead of looking for Truth, at least you can make sure that you are not deluding yourself.

How do you remove the illusion? What do you do? :)
