Drastic improvement in mood
This improvement in mood is so extreme, that researchers are actually studying cold showers as a means to treat depression. It simply works like this:

When you enter into a cold shower, it spikes your sympathetic nervous system, which stimulates your fight or flight response, which then leads to your body releasing massive amounts of norepinephrine, which is a hormone that acts as a neurotransmitter, which functions to control your levels of mood, attention, memory, focus and concentration, which are uber essential abilities to have in a world of noise and distractions.

A lot of the anti-depressants that are available on the market today, are actually working by increasing the norepinephrine in your brain, because depression can lead to dangerously low amounts of norepinephrine, which results in lowered amounts of concentration, mood, focus, memory etc. Which are essential skills to have, when pursuing cold showers on nofap.

One study found that when taking a cold shower in 14 degrees Celsius or 54 degrees Fahrenheit of cold water, the participant experienced a 530% increase in norepinephrine and 250% increase in dopamine!

Both of these hormones/neurotransmitters work together to significantly make you feel more energetic and ready to take on your day!


Reduced anxiety and inflammation
Inflammation is a biological process, that serves the purpose of recovery and keeping further damage away. E.g. If you’re lifting weights, you’re tearing up your muscles, which leads to inflammation which then results in stronger and bigger muscles.

But the problem that we face in modern society, is that we are not exposing ourselves to enough acute stressors, like lifting weights and taking cold showers, which is why we are going through the cycle of psychological stress, and thinking about future events or past events.

This often results in negative emotions, and then these negative emotions are leading to the inflammatory response as well, as a result a lot of us are suffering from chronic inflammation, which is of course not beneficial, it is reducing your overall function of your entire body.

The thing with cold showers is, as I mentioned before that norepinephrine, it relates to a decrease in a molecule called TNF alpha and TNF alpha is a potent inflammatory marker, so lower amounts of it correlates with lower amounts of inflammation and the lower amount of chronic inflammation you have, will lead to lower amounts of cortisol, and lower amounts of cortisol, will lead to higher amounts of testosterone!

So chronic inflammation is destroying your body, but taking a cold shower is an acute stressor, which initiates a cascade of hormonal reactions which result in your body being able to function more efficiently and more optimally.


Heightened Immune System
The immune system is a collection of tissues, organs and cells that work together to protect your body infectious diseases, infection etc. The evidence of this is actually pretty clear, in one study they actually brought in over 3.000 participants between the ages of 18-46 and made them take a cold showers every day for 60 days!

When they compared the people who took a cold shower, with the people who didn’t take a cold shower for 60 days, they found that the one who took a cold shower, actually had a 29% reduced work-related illness.

Other studies have shown that men swimming in the winter months in cold water, actually has a 40% reduced incidence of tract infections and other similar infections.

When you expose yourself to the acute stressor, that is cold water, then your body increases the amount of white blood cells in your body, and white blood cells are a crucial factor in your immune system, and higher amounts of blood cells, lead to a better management of infections, pathogens and any other outside factor that might affect your body negatively.

This is why it is so incredibly important to do cold showers on nofap, you can’t be sick, when you’re pursuing the life of your dreams, ain’t nobody got time for that!


Increase of fat loss
The way that cold exposure can initiate an increase of fat loss, is through a process called thermogenesis. There are two types of thermogenesis, the first one is called “Shivering Thermogenesis”, so when you take a cold shower, your skin is immediately exposed to this water which is much more cold than your core body temperature. You begin shivering and your muscles begin contracting, which leads to heat production by the body, which results in fat loss. That is what thermogenesis is, as your body tries to produce heat, you’re losing calories, using energy which boosts your metabolism.

But what is actually more interesting than “Shivering Thermogenesis” is “Non Shivering Thermogenesis”, where “Shivering Thermogenesis” takes place in your muscle contractions, “Non Shivering Thermogenesis” takes place in your adipose fat tissue.

When you take NoFap cold showers or expose yourself to cold water, it releases a massive amount of norepinephrine and then norepinephrine increases the expression of something called “uncoupling protein”, and uncoupling protein basically uncouples the mitochondria in the cells and mitochondria if you didn’t know, are like a powerhouse of a cell.

So when the mitochondria are coupled, there is basically a connection between the energy (ATP) and the transfer of electrons which is derived from food, and this basically creates an electrochemical gradient, inside the mitochondria which is negatively charged on the inside, and positively on the outside.

When the cold water exposure activates the uncoupling protein, then the mitochondria uncouples, and get rids of the electrochemical gradient, that is established as well.

In response to this, the mitochondria try to reconnect to other mitochondria, and in the process of that, they do so by transporting electrons which are derived from your body fat, which is fat oxidation basically.

So the uncoupling also increases metabolism, by increasing the amount of mitochondria within the adipose tissue, this causes a browning effect, and basically converts the white adipose tissue to its more metabolically brown adipose tissue.

It’s called brown adipose tissue, because when it is observed under a microscope, it actually appears brown, because the excessive amounts of mitochondria in it, are making it appear brown.

Doing Cold Showers is a great example of eating the frog, or at least one of the bigger frogs you should be eating during your day (preferably the first thing you do as you wake up).

As you do this, you’re conquering your day in the most hardcore way ever, where no one can really hurt you, because you’ve started tackling the biggest obstacles from the start of your day!


Relaxing your mind
All the above benefits aren’t bad right? So let’s top it off, with one of the benefits I personally enjoy the most, from doing cold showers and I am sure you will love this one!

A standard view on what a cold shower is, is something uncomfortable, that makes you wide awake and even maybe anxious and stressful, but trust me on this, that is a very limited belief and perspective on what a cold shower actually is, it’s so much more.

Cold showers is increasing your Glutathione in your blood, which is a very powerful antioxidant that is present in your body. It neutralizes toxins and unhealthy cells from your body, which results in a much more homeostatic body, that gives you relaxation on a whole new level.


I always feel like I am in a kind of meditative state, after taking a cold shower. Even when I am in the cold shower actually, I typically stay there for as long as I can, and the longer I stay, the more relaxed I feel afterwards.



If you have a lot of plans and a busy day facing you, I suggest you to not stay in the cold shower for too long, as it can make you really tired and drowsy. So to begin with, don’t go in there for more than 60 seconds. Unless you are following The Wim Hof Method

Who is Wim Hof and what is The Wim Hof Method?
Maybe you’ve stumbled upon some of the crazy documentaries on YouTube about Wim Hof or better known as The Iceman.

This Dutch guy, is the reason why cold showers suddenly became super popular in today’s world. His technique The Wim Hof Method, is practiced by thousands of practitioners all over the world. If you’re keen on this cold shower thing, I suggest you start using his technique as well, to master your journey of NoFap cold showers!

He has 26 Guinness world records under his belt, and one of them being swimming farthest under ice, in a distance of 57.5 meters! See, that is pretty amazing right?

So if you practice what he preaches, you will be able to attain almost similar abilities, of course not only after a few days or months of training, but if you stick to his training, this is definitely not unachievable for you.



We all believe we are super limited to what we can accomplish as humans, but this is really a limiting belief. You can achieve things that has never ever been achieved before by other humans, you just have to tap into that potential, by believing in yourself more, than what you currently believe.

Get comfortable, sit in a cross-legged or half-lotus/lotus position if you know how to do that

Take 30 power breaths (through nose or mouth – I prefer nose) – Do it quite heavily, so make sure you get all the air in and all the air out, until you feel tingling sensations in your head and body.

Now hold your breath after the 30 power breaths, fill your lungs to the maximum capacity, without any force. Hold for as long as you can. You should hold your breath until you experience the gasp reflex.

When experiencing the gasp reflex, inhale to full capacity, feel your chest expanding and when you’ve reached your full inhale capacity, hold the breath for 10 seconds and voila that is round 1. You can repeat this cycle for 3 more times.

Enjoy the feelings and sensations that comes from this method, the more often you do this exercise, the longer you will be able to endure cold showers and many other exercises!
