Materialism Vs Non-Materialism

6 posts in this topic

Let's take both of them to their ultimate resolution.

Materialist believe and have subjective personal scientific rational proof that the world is a brute, dry , mechanical system with atoms bouncing left and right down up and down, in a specific orderly manner. There's no randomness, according to hard-core materialists, if we had a full understanding of the universe we could predict and understand everything.

Non-Materialist on the other hand are split, you have people who believe in Souls, Ectoplasm's, Consciousness being the substance of everything and this reality just being one generated set out of a pool of infinite possibilities thanks to the properties that consciousness has, like infinite love and infinite intelligence.

Ultimately we are told to trust our direct experience, but who said that? Our direct experience...

We end in a loop here, everyone is stuck in beliefs, theories and personal direct experiences.

If you were a true non-materialist then who's to say that your kitchen knife can't just navigate to you and start stabbing you? What would happen if you took non-materialism to it's ultimate resolution? After-all, the universe is so big, maybe even infinite, so who's to say that everything you believe in is false? Who tuned your sensory system anyways? Why would you trust your direct experience?

I'll end this by saying that no one will know what lies after death until they physically die. Until then you're stuck in your direct personal experience.

Beliefs are irrelevant.
Enlightenment is not-knowing and is not attained through "correct" solution to any given dichotomy.

What if all beliefs, theories, and experiences are negated, and finally the person (also a belief, theory, experience) is negated?

(Face palm)

Sharp, you are in the very materialism mindset of which you ask of. Notice the subtle nuances of separation still present.

There is no "until" or "then" (time) in eternity.

It's Here and Now.

Don't be so sure about knowing what lies after death after death.

After all: you were dead before you got born.

So my bet is that you will end up in the exact same situation which you are in now. You will get born and yet again wonder what will happen after death.
