How would you begin to explain the nondual paradigm+nonmaterial universe to somebody?

9 posts in this topic

As I progressed working on myself, I became increasingly more able to explain my experiences of the nondual with people.

But I realized im missing the first piece you'd need for somebody to be able to consider all the other insights seriously. The transition from a materialist paradigm and into a nondual conscious universe. I feel like ive taken the initial understanding for granted.

There's a lot of beliefs and ideas you'd need to unbag I haven't figured out how to keep it sweet and to the point without too many confusing details for them.

I would point them to nondual glimpses they’ve already had in their direct experience. I would use as few concepts as possible.

@Shadowraix consider if it was that easy, then this whole process would be streamlined and everyone would have heard about it. The initial breaking out of the materialist paradigm is extremely difficult and earth-shattering. How do you tell someone they're not open minded if they believe they are? Like serotonin said,if they haven't had a taste of the experience, there's no use explaining it. Like you've discovered, the first piece is actually the biggest obstacle. Really appreciate that.

Good point. I got into a discussion about this very thing.

And what I 'know' to speak happens before knowledge and rationality.

These discussions downspiral fast from evidence to hallucinations etc its such an endless loop.

@Shadowraix and that's with rational people! Imagine how hard it would be to talk to pre-rational people, stage red and blue? I mean, you don't really have to imagine, just look in history. The good news is that society is able to take on new ideas and paradigms at an ever increasing rate. The majority of people will move into green in our lifetimes, with a significant portion moving into yellow. And yellow is the magical point; tier 2. Awareness of all stages of the spiral. Once a significant part of society reaches yellow (doesn't have to be a large percentage), innovation and creativity will burst in all directions like we've never seen before. So that's at least something to look forward to :D

@Shadowraix I wouldn't. Non-duality is utterly distant from the interests and concerns of people who aren't into it. It is not relevant to their lives hence they won't listen, and will see you as weird for bringing such topics up.

@Shadowraix If you're dealing with anyone who's a fundamentalist christian/muslim kiss your chances good bye. This is also applies for the ultra pragmatic, cringy materiallistic types of people. You could never convince them.

Perhaps a Sam Harris style of approach works well?  Sam Harris was the one who introduced me to meditation when I was big fan of his. I think its impossible to explain full blown non-duality straight away. I think the only thing you can do is point someone towards to the habit of doing these beneficial practices (meditation, yoga) for themselves, but not many people see the point in trying them. Sam Harris tells people about meditating and lack of free will without attacking the scientific paradigm. I remember he said in his talk about death (where he did a guided meditation) that "as a matter of experience" everything is consciousness and the present moment is all you can ever have. But Sam Harris proceeds to them say something along the lines of "but its not the case that everything is consciousness from the perspective of physics or science" so as to not come across as crazy to his audience.

Hark ye yet again — the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event — in the living act, the undoubted deed — there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there's naught beyond. But 'tis enough.

There are no techneques to do what you want to do. Either you are able to pearce it through or not. It depends on your level of consciousness.

Each person is unique, each person needs a different approach, they have different resistence, different receptivity, different inteligence, different everything.  Only by being absolutely aware and sensitive of everything you'll can manage your way thought someone's mind. There's no other way. No techneque to do that. Only your awareness

I begin to show those who ask me that by shifting their reality. Open their system through Tantra and they automatically freak out to a new awareness. Explaining to strangers who ask only conceptual? That is BS, that kind of mentality cannot understand what the hell i talk about, unless i mess with their energetical systems.

And there are those who are more stuck then others. Per example someone with a physical condition or chronic condition it will be magnitudes more difficult, because having some sort of disease or condition is because of a huge EGO and stuckness, delusion, usually in logic or some sort of belief. The most kind and non-violent in appearance the most difficult is to work with this kind of people. This is my experience.

Because suffering brings kindness and creates an unknown monster, that monster has the mask of being righteous, humble, good, etc.
