The word "Don't"

8 posts in this topic

Words like "Don't" , "Not" or "Can't" should be taken out of your vocabulary.

Not for some airy fairy self help reasons, but just think about what you're doing when you say something like this.

If we take a close look, when you say you "DON'T" want something to happen, the minds natural tendency is to project an image of the thing you are actively seeking to avoid!

What happens when you tell a child, "Hey, DON'T touch that!" what is he/she most likely to do???

Of course the child is going to try and touch whatever object he/she is not supposed to!

Instead, give yourself and others positive feedback and self talk and "Respond in the Positive"

This way, the mind can project out a positive image to strive towards.

This is especially important for anyone who wants to be a teacher, a coach, a mentor, or any type of guidance provider ^_^

You're right. Don't use the word don't.

@Sahil Pandit they should not be taken out of the dictionary, lmao. They have a specific use. What you're calling for is more conscious use of it, to replace it where applicable with positive reinforcement, and use of "don't" will naturally decrease. You make some great points, and I agree with you! ?

The child example is true but I think it's fine to be aware of things that you don't want and try to avoid those things. You don't necessarily have to replace those things with positive things. Just get rid of them.
