Logistics of the cave lifestyle

9 posts in this topic

Iv Been thinking that if I don’t become enlightened within the next 5 years then I may go live in a Spanish cave somewhere and just meditate 24.7 for like 3 to 5 or 10 years or so. I would just meditate at home but a cave is rent free so I’d rather do that. Im just wondering has anyone else also thought about this and if so have you given any thought as to how or what you would eat as I doubt there would be any shops close by and I wouldn’t want to hunt. I know @Leo Gura has mentioned this many times, Leo or anyone else who has thought about this, have you thought about how you’d eat in this cave you speak of?  If so lemme know :)

This was a common reverie of mine at one period.

First, you'd need to do it in a climate that preferably doesn't go below freezing temperatures. Secondly, you need to be in close proximity to a stream of fresh water.

It would be very difficult to live off the land so I figured it would be most convenient to just buy and store non-perishable food. You come down off the mountain when needed to restock on food.

South asian countries would be most ideal because of the warm climate and cheap price of food. You could probably eat well off 50 cents of food a day in Asia. That's vegetarian though. You could also grow your own vegetables like potatoes to bring down the cost even more.

@Tom T Living in a cave is not as easy as it sounds. It will basically feel like hell. And I doubt it is sustainable for years at a time because you're gonna run out of essential supplies like food and water.

You'd have to plan it out very well and you'd have to select a spot which has sources of food and water.

I know some yogis, for example, live on coconuts which grow nearby them. This kind of thing is easier to pull off in tropical countries I think.

It's much more realistic to live in a small remote cabin which offers heat, small kitchen, pantry, toilet, shower, etc.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

Art Of Living Without Food

There is an ancient myth about the people of Atlantis. According to Greek mythology Atlantis was the most perfect civilization in the world only the worthy could be a part of this civilization. If myths are to be believed then the people of this perfect civilization lived without food. Even today there are people who reject food and live on the energy of the sun that they absorb directly. They are called Breatharians. The Breatharians know the art of living on light and energies derived from the sun. But it is no magic trick. The spiritual leaders in an India have named this technique as the Prana Yoga.

@Tom T

Enlightenment does not come from where you live it comes from how you live.   You are trying to invoke physical suffering but i do not think it will be authenitic suffering..let me explain.

Enlightenment comes after you become aware of years of your own selfishness and deception and your striving for honesty and truth.

It also comes from years of suffering..suffering from the ramifications of that selfishness.

It comes when you awake to this and begin to change it.  With years of change and self reflection it will come.

Now if you feel you are not selfish and have not suffered enough then look deep within yourself.  You will find it.  If not time will reveal it.

Learn to live the cave at home.  You don’t need to physically be in a cave.  What you need is time to do your Enlightenment Work.  You do need time.  Even now I spend time every day meditating.

What about just enrolling in a monastery/ashram ?

You'll get around the same benefits in getting a lot of time to focus on meditation and all the logistics will be solved

I'd take some survival classes. Takes time to learn to hunt and be able to build with nearby resources.

Thankyou for the responses everybody it’s muchly appreciated :) And yes @Leo Gurathe cabin idea sounds sweet im going to look into that !!! And @Jordan94 the ashram meditation also sounds like a good potential idea to Id never though of that thankyou for mentioning it although I do prefer the idea of doing it all solo by myself. And yes  My @Joseph Maynor my plan is to do this whole spiritual enlightenment process at home while still being able to engage with the world, I do have a daily spiritual practice but I don’t think it’s enough. I can go to some reallly deep levels of concious during my meditation but then for the rest of the day I’m just distracted with life aha.  I find it almost impossible to maintaine mindfulness through out the day while having to do survival stuff where I have to think about how to keep my self alive which is the opposite of enlightenment work. And I feel like if I was being constantly mindful all the time then I’d get literally fuck all done and then I wouldn’t be able to acomplish anything I want to get done. I think that’s just my ego being sneaky and lookin gets for any excuse for me not to kill it lol but it’s a pretty good one. I also find it really hard to dysapine myself to be mindful in the shower, while eating, Doing work. I know I’m not the only one the struggles with this but it’s mega hard work aha so that’s why I think pulling my self out of the rat race and go living  in a cave is the way forward aha.

But it thank you everyone I appreciate all he reply’s sending much love to you all !!! Hope you’d are all doing well :) ??xxxxx
