Should we do both Self Inquiry and Meditation every day?

17 posts in this topic

Who does these practices separately? And who blends them together? As I mentioned on a similar thread, the meditative practice of 'residing as awareness' and the Self Inquiry Leo outlines as 'watching awareness' seem somewhat similar, or is there a difference? Perhaps the former is more about letting go and the latter requires more focus. I'd love to know what you guys do. I would like to combine the practices if possible to save time. My goal is realising my true nature, so I'm wondering what would be the best and quickest way to get there. 5-MeO maybe lol. That's on the cards, but I want to use traditional methods too for lasting growth.

I’d say that’s about right. Meditation is great for clearing / emptying the mind, and then self inquire. Also, yet, both all day.

I didn't quite understand this sentence Nahm, could you clarify?

Sorry, what's in+?

As for shortcuts, Martin Ball claims to have become enlightened through taking 5-MeO DMT. How can we be sure he hasn't? Only he knows. I'm not looking for a short cut per se - just to be able to do things correctly and not waste time :)

@Wisebaxter With meditation, awareness on what “pulls you out of” the meditation, after “meditation” when you are into your day. Often it’s habits, identifying with certain thoughts, reactional speaking vs creative response, etc - general inattention to our own sayings and doings. With self inquiry, it is wise to allocate time just for that, and also to be inquiring into the actions mentioned which “pull you out” of the meditation (after the allocated mediation period). This minimizes the back and forth or the cycle, meditative state, then lost in thought, meditate, lost, meditate, lost. Such a cycle can be a perfectly natural part of awakening. My intention in commenting is like a head’s up, to save time, get the most out of practices. There’s always plenty of topical focus on practices, but it’s equally important to allow awareness / attention on what “undoes” the practices too.

@Wisebaxter Additionally. So reject exciment and leisurely do the 'work'. You'll see the progress.

@Nahm Hmm, that does sound like a good way forward, to become as conscious as possible of the shift in awareness after meditation and to notice how your mind pulls you back into Maya. To be able to compare the meditative state with the 'normal' state seems very powerful. I'll give that a shot. Thanks for your help.

@Nahm So perhaps I can make love a pivotal element of any practice. If it makes me more loving - I'm heading in the right direction? If it decreases fear and increases a sense of connection etc

@Wisebaxter Doing ”the work”, the practices, and being serious about it, committed, disciplined, etc. It is important. Keep doin what you’re doin. When you encounter those ‘barriers’ within yourself, don’t avoid, don’t stop there, always keep going, look directly into fear - see what it’s made of. You’ll simultaneously see what you’re made of, and that is awesome.

@Wisebaxter i do 1 hour sit every day. 40mins self enquiry followed immediately by breath focus meditation.

Try not to confuse yourself with too much knowledge, especially correct knowledge. Just make sure your doing the techniques correctly.

@tedens Thanks buddy, that's good advice and quite uncanny as this has been the thing that's ben helping me recently, since I discovered it. Putting awareness on my consciousness. With you now saying this - I know the universe is speaking to me and telling me to carry on with it

@Aaron p Thanks dude, but without the correct knowledge, how do I know I'm doing things correctly? Do you just mean I should experiment and not get obsessed with theory etc?
