Reading Books

2 posts in this topic

Hi Everyone!

Was just wondering how you approach reading books. I know this topic is based on personal preference but maybe there are some interesting approaches to reading books and taking as much from them as you can.

I've tried different methods. Sometimes I read multiple books; a bit of one in the morning and the same in the evening. I also take notes and take my time with applying what I learn if its a more practical book. I sometimes have trouble though with focusing so I have to retrace my steps and see if I'm understanding it right.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I  began reading in my early 20's mostly for a distraction from anxiety and depression. Novels, biographies mostly besides my Dianetics/Scientology stuff for the next 10 years. Began reading more spiritual, metaphysical stuff in my 30's. These were often books I would re-read sometimes 4-5 times or like The Power Of Now at least 20 times. I'm very rough on books and will not hesitate to circle paragraphs and write in the margins or in the blank pages in the back of the book, I'll write a page # and a 3-7 word reminder of the topic. That's been useful for going back to a book that was read 2 to 3 years in the past and being able to find the material. Most likely I'll have written a reminder and page # in the back.

Its nice to read ebooks where you can usually find something by doing a search. I've never even tried a kindle or one the other kind.  I like to hold a regular book, carry it with me. Read outdoors a lot when the weather is mild,,,
